The Korean National Police Agency appointed Faker as an honorary police officer and ambassador. He will help promote youth gambling self-reporting and raise awareness about the risks of online gambling.

I guess this is for south korea- where gambling is generally overall illegal, no?

Yes, this is for South Korea, where gambling is illegal. There's a program to let people self-report to receive a more lenient sentence as well as counseling to help get out of addiction, and so Faker's new role includes promoting that as part of a broader campaign.
