FNCS stands for Fortnite Champion Series. Being the flagship tournament for Epic Games, FNCS is the most reputable competitive circuit in the Fortnite esports scene that crowns the best players in the battle royale each season and, ultimately, each Chapter.

FNCS started small, with a limited prize pool, but over the years, it has grown into a full-fledged esports circuit with multiple online Majors per Chapter, which all culminate in an in-person Global Championship LAN event.

How the FNCS works

FNCS was very limited compared to the Fortnite World Cup. However, unlike the World Cup, this tournament has a much more regular structure that quickly made it quite popular in the Fortnite competitive scene.

Each year, FNCS holds three majors, one for each in-game season. The fourth and final season hosts the Global Championship LAN. This is the pinnacle for the game and offers Fortnite betting opportunities as the best players compete for the title.

The climb to the Grand Finals is extremely grindy. To reach it, players have to excel in all of the following stages in the Majors:

  • Divisional Cups: Basically, the opening qualifiers for the tournament. Players compete in divisions each week and gain points for eliminations or survival. Based on their score, the top teams move forward to the next stage.
  • Play-In: The day-two stage of the Major. Qualifiers from the divisions participate, and top teams get to move to the Group Stage.
  • Group Stage: This stage is quite serious, qualifiers from the Play-Ins and Division Cups are divided into groups, and the top teams from each group get to the final stage. Players are scored based on their match wins.
  • Last Chance Qualifier: This is the last chance for any team that missed the cut during the Groups Stage.
  • Grand Final: The big showdown of the Major. The Grand Final has six matches per day over a weekend, with players getting points based on how many kills they rack up. The top leaderboard players in Grand Finals get to participate in the Global Championship LAN event.

Special FNCS play rules

FNCS has some special rules that set it apart from standard Battle Royale matches:

  • Siphon: Players regain health and materials on every elimination.
  • Storm Surge: If too many people are alive, the Storm starts to apply damage to the lowest-performing team.

Current format and future

Since 2024, FNCS has settled primarily on Trios and Duos format, with Trios being the current standard for Majors.

Who can compete?

Anyone who is over the age of 13 and has an account level of 300+ can participate in Divisional Cups. But the skill ceiling is extremely high, so take part only if you are confident in how good you are.
