Fortnite is removing battle stars for Chapter 6.

Battle stars are gone in Fortnite starting on December 1, and here is what Fortnite is replacing them with.

In 2024, Fortnite has made a number of major changes to the reward mechanics of the game. Past battle pass skins will now eventually become available in the item shop, and fans got another mini-season of Fortnite OG for Chapter 2. Now, it seems that Fortnite will be getting rid of a feature present since Chapter 2, and fans aren’t exactly upset about it.

Here’s why battle stars are gone in Fortnite and why that actually might make passes way easier.

Why is Fortnite removing battle stars?

By removingbattle stars, developers are hoping to simplify all Fortnite passes and make it easier to unlock rewards.

Originally, players collected the in-game currency by leveling up. They could then spend them on items in the battle pass, including outfits and emoticons. Part of the reason why fans enjoyed the battle stars was because it allowed them to unlock items in a non-sequential order.

Fortnite removes battle stars and replaces them with XP progression.

Now that battle stars are gone, all passes in Fortnite progress with XP. Players can also earn XP for each unlocked pass simultaneously, regardless of which experience they choose to play. Seemingly, this cuts out the middle man of battle stars and directly links in-game rewards to player performance. Additionally, the game is adding free and premium tracks each of their passes to tier the prize system. All of these changes will hopefully make the pass system less convoluted for players.

Other removed currencies include Festival points and studs. The new music pass, Lego pass, and battle pass all will be using XP from now on. Overall, it seems that fans are pleased with the promised changes. These new changes went live along with the long-awaited Fortnite Chapter 6.

Battle star removal coincides with Chapter 6 arrival

Fortnite Chapter 6 also debuts on December 1, bringing with it a number of exciting developments.

Chapter 6 of Fortnite brings a lot of new changes, from mechanical changes like the end of battle stars to the debut of themed characters like Godzilla. Subtitled “Demon Hunters,” Season 1 will feature a long-awaited Japanese theme across the map and in new unlockable passes. Players can look forward to this and more in the first season of Chapter 6 through February 2025.

Those who really can’t wait to get their hands on the evolved Godzilla skin have the option to directly buy the reward of their choice without progressing the battle pass. Fortnite may see more players in rarer skins without battle stars, and may see a much larger profit.
