BLG’s presence in the ongoing MSI’s play-in stage meant there would likely only be room for only one other team to qualify for the bracket stage. Based on both teams’ recent performance, the match between G2 and GAM will likely be close, and G2 may only have a slight advantage at best despite expectations it would move through to the next stage.

G2 Esports is known as one of the most consistently inconsistent League of Legends teams at the international level, and the current tournament hasn’t given fans any reason to doubt that’s still true. In particular, BrokenBlade is the team’s most questionable player, as his performance is always unreliable and often ensures that strong enemy top laners can get strong enough in the laning phase to become threats for the entire G2 team in the mid and late game stages.

Fortunately, not all is bad. Hans Sama is an excellent ADC who has proven multiple times that he has high carry potential. While G2’s support isn’t the best, playing around Hans Sama may help G2 walk away with the win.

Caps has a bad habit of running it down when things aren’t going his way, though he’s a great mid laner when he keeps his cool, suggesting that he may have more than enough to handle GAM’s Aress and Emo, who both lost to FURIA mid laner Tutsz in every laning phase of their match.

Speaking of GAM, the team’s jungler Levi has excellent objective acquisition and ganking abilities. GAM’s best shot at winning against G2 would likely be to ensure the draft is built around Levi and Kiaya. Kiaya is GAM’s top laner and shows up in every match, and he should comfortably win the laning phase versus G2’s BB, turning into a late-game carry if things go well for GAM.

Artemis has done well enough, and Elio ironically stands out more as an extremely impactful initiator support. His plays with champions like Bard and Braum set up opportunities for the rest of the team, but he also has the strategic thinking required to get out of danger when he seems to be caught. This is the exact opposite of how G2’s Labrov plays, often throwing himself into danger, and it will definitely impact how the laning phase goes.
