Hytale, the long awaited online crafting and adventure game, is back in the hands of its original creators after years of limbo. The announcement of the reacquisition was made on Nov. 17, with additional details about the scope and scale of Hytale coming to light later.

Hytale was originally announced in 2015. The game was set to be developed by long-time Minecraft server owner and developer Simon “hypixel” Collins-Laflamme alongside other developers from the Hypixel server.

After several years of development, an initial trailer was released in December 2018, showcasing a huge online sandbox game with creation tools, adventure modes, and more. With the hype abound, investment came calling, namely from Riot Games. The studio first invested in 2019, before Hypixel Studio was fully acquired by the company in 2020.

At that time, original creator, Collins-Laflamme departed alongside others. In charge of the studio was former Hypixel dev “Noxy” who headed the studio during its tenure at Riot. After the shut down of Riot Games’ publishing label, Riot Forge, in 2024, fear grew about the title. After all, since the 2018 trailer, nothing had been heard.

Rumors spiraled from insider sources that the original development team had made a playable product that was around one or two years away from completion. But upon the acquisition, much of the original team’s work was deemed unusable, and the game began to be rebuilt from the ground up, with some of the original developers let go.

Then in June 2025, Noxy announced on Twitter that the game had been cancelled by Riot Games, seemingly bringing an end to Hytale for good.

But amazingly, on Nov. 17, Simon “hypixel” announced that he had reacquired Hytale and that development would continue. Details of the deal are currently unknown, but Collins-Laflamme has already made some big promises.

The revitalized development team has already rehired 30 of the original developers, and have committed a decade of development budget to the game. Day-one modding support has been confirmed, and several prominent Minecraft modders have already pledged to create new content for the game. Popular MMORPG Minecraft server Wynncraft posted simply “Wynntale?” upon the announcement, suggesting they could jump on the Hytale bandwagon when it releases.

And the game is coming out sooner rather than later, with an early access model. As Collins-Laflamme put it himself in his tweets, even bugs and glitches won’t stop the release this time:

“nah, I’m releasing this game half cooked and will fix it over time

no more waiting”

After over a decade of development, it’s a sentiment eagerly awaiting fans will be sure to appreciate. Much of Hytale’s dedicated fan base grew out of the original Hypixel Minecraft server. That server became famous for its Skyblock server, which acted as a sandbox MMO, in effect, and was popularized by legendary Minecraft YouTuber Technoblade.

Now fans of Hypixel and Hytale might finally be able to get to grips with a game they’ve been waiting over ten years to play.
