Marvel Rivals is currently available on PC as well as consoles like the PS5 and the Xbox Series X. One significant reason for its spiraling into popularity is the ease with which casual players can understand the game mechanics. Another strong reason is that all the heroes in the Marvel Rivals roster are part of this game, being part of the Marvel Cinematic and Comic Universe.

🔍 What is Marvel Rivals?

Marvel Rivals is a free-to-play 6v6 hero shooter. Within the game, there are over 40 playable heroes following the release of Blade and Phoenix in Season 3.5 and Angela and Daredevil with Season 4. Within the game, there are three types of characters: Vanguard, Duelists and Strategists.

  • Vanguards: These heroes have some of the highest health points in the game. Each Vanguard in Marvel Rivals has a skill or ability to block or mitigate incoming damage. The goal for players who play characters in this class is to be the team’s first line of offense and defense.
  • Duelists: Heroes in the Duelist class in Marvel Rivals primarily focus on outputting damage. These heroes are crucial for securing take downs and finding enemies. These heroes have lesser health than Vanguards and have skills focusing on mobility. Most of their abilities are focused on giving them an advantage during 1v1 duels against opponents. In other games, these heroes would be considered their teams’ DPS.
  • Strategists: Strategist heroes in Marvel Rivals are more focused on assisting and supporting their teammates. These characters have abilities that can inflict damage on enemies and heal their teammates as well. Their main goal isn’t about getting kills but instead assisting the Duelist and Vanguard heroes in their team. Some of their abilities can provide certain buffs to their teammates, such as increasing damage dealt, granting extra health, and extra movement speed. Many would recognize these heroes as those who come under the support class in other games.

🎮 Marvel Rivals Game Modes

The game consists of three primary game modes:

  • Domination: In this game mode, the two teams fight each other to gain control of a single point in a space called the Mission Area.
  • Convoy: One team needs to escort a vehicle from one end of the map to the other while the opposite team needs to stop them in the given time limit.
  • Convergence: With rules similar to Convoy, the major difference being that the attacking team needs to capture a mission area first and then push the vehicle ahead.

There are also two arcade game modes:

  • Doom Match
  • Conquest

On PC, Marvel Rivals is available on Steam. According to SteamDB, the game is ranked sixth in daily active users. This means that in 2025, the game will be one of the top five games that are being played daily.

When the game was launched back in December 2024, Season 0 was taking place in the game. At that point, the game had a peak player count of around 480,000. Since then, the game hit its highest peak of active users around January. This was due to it being the global launch of the game. The game had a peak of 644,269 players playing at once.

Using the data from the Steam marketplace, Marvel Rivals has a maximum of around 140,000 to 150,000 peak active users. Since the game’s launch, there has been a small spike in the number of users. When Season 2 was released worldwide on March 5th, over 315,000 players were playing the game. On Twitch, Marvel Rivals streamers collectively get a maximum of 62,000 concurrent viewers. Looking at the game’s trend, it seems that over time, the game has become less popular.
