Pokémon World Championships 2026 achieves record 215,000 peak viewers

From August 28 through 31, San Francisco’s Moscone Center hosted the 2026 Pokémon World Championships. The series had massive viewership, both in-arena and digitally across the globe, and was accompanied by PokémonXP, the first official fan convention.

The 2026 Pokémon World Championships consisted of four separate events:

• Video Game Championships
• Trading Card Game
• Pokémon GO
• Pokémon UNITE

All four competitions had excellent concurrent viewership stats, with peak numbers reaching heights never seen before in the Pokémon World Championships series.

Viewership stats show exceptional growth

According to Esports Charts’ viewership stats, the 2026 Pokémon Video Game Championships (VCG) reached over 215,600 peak viewers.

This is the first time a Pokémon PWC event has surpassed the 200,000 peak viewers mark, which speaks volumes about the popularity of the best Pokemon games. Of course, the peak happened during the grand finals between Hiroshi Onishi and the event winner, Takuma Yamazaki.

The VCG event’s air time was 23 hours and 5 minutes, which was the shortest air time across all four competitions at this year’s Pokémon World Championships.

The remaining three events (TCG, GO, and UNITE) also had record-breaking peak viewership, exceeding 150,000 across all three fronts.

A big reason behind these record-breaking viewership stats was community casting. All four events had over a hundred community broadcasting channels, with the most prominent ones being Sergio “knekro” Garcia, and Leslie “fuslie” Fu.

To put things into perspective, last year’s Pokémon UNITE Championship had roughly 50 community streamers.

As for the total watch time, only the Pokémon UNITE event fell below a million hours watched. The VCG event had over 3 million hours watched, while TCG and Go events were hovering around the 1.5 million mark. Stay tuned to EsportsBetting.com for more esports news.
