Ubisoft has announced a new Membership service for Rainbow Six Siege, but is it worth the cost for hardcore grinders?

Rainbow Six Siege has been a massive success for Ubisoft, remaining a top-played title for nearly a decade. While there were some dips in popularity, the competitive shooter is still going strong with consistent developer updates. The game recently set its biggest concurrent player record, hitting over 200,000 players in March of 2024. Rainbow Six Siege has received numerous operators and skins throughout its life, and Ubisoft is keen to monetize it further.

As Year 8 Season 4 comes to a close, Ubisoft announced a new season for Rainbow Six Siege, which was met with enthusiasm. However, another announcement might have soured the community’s mood. A subscription service called the R6 Membership will be available for the game. In the usual subscription tradition, it’ll give players added benefits in the form of exclusive content.

Is Siege Membership worth it?

Based on its cost and benefits, Membership is worth it if a gamer focuses on Siege. It’s not worth it for casual players looking to play a couple of matches here and there.

The Membership will give premium battle pass access, ten battle levels, and one bravo pack, which contains cosmetics for the game. Additionally, subscribers get “a continuous stream of premium content that keeps your Ops equipped with the best exclusive gear.”

Rainbow Six Siege Membership bonus rewards

Monthly content drops will also include a legendary item, which can be animated. Players will also get an epic operator bundle for the subscription. In an official blog post, Ubisoft states that the R6 Membership rewards are worth over 4,500 monthly credits. Players signing up between June 11 and 18 will receive an additional Ash Epic bundle and 600 credits for joining early.

How much does the R6 Siege Membership cost?

The Rainbow Six Siege monthly R6 Membership will cost $10 a month but is also available for $80 a year.

The announcement was made at the BLAST R6 Manchester Major this weekend, and the attendees were not pleased. It’s clear that Ubisoft took inspiration from Fortnite and its Crew Membership. However, the difference is that Fortnite is a free-to-play title while Rainbow Six Siege is a paid one.

Rainbow Six Siege Operation New Blood

The fans’ live reaction was not favorable. The announcement met instant booing from the crowd, which nearly drowned out the video. The subscription is planned to come out with the new season, Operation New Blood.
