The only way to change your name in Valorant explained In 2026

After signing up, it’s normal for players to want to change their in-game name in VALORANT, and fortunately, it’s pretty straightforward, even in 2026.

Multiplayer games are synonymous with in-game names, with every person having a unique one that separates them from the rest. VALORANT isn’t different, as everyone in the title has a name and identifier that sets them apart from others. Names are distinctive and often represent some part of a player’s personality.

After registering, some players might want to alter their in-game name later, and luckily, VALORANT allows fans to do it. However, as the option to change the in-game VALORANT name isn’t on the client, some players might face confusion. Here’s how players can change their in-game VALORANT name, and how often they can do so.

How to change Riot ID name in VALORANT

Players can’t change their VALORANT name through the client or game and must go to the website.

Riot doesn’t allow players to change their names as liberally as Steam does. There’s no way to do it through the VALORANT client itself. Players must go to the official Riot Accounts website to change their name in VALORANT. Fortunately, the process is very straightforward.

  • Go to the Riot Accounts page on any browser.
  • Log in using the username and password of the account that needs its name changed.
  • Navigate to the Riot ID tab, which should be on the right side of the screen.
  • Type in a new name and tagline in the text boxes.
  • Click on the “Save Changes” button.
  • If done successfully, there should be a confirmation message on the screen.

It’s worth noting that doing this will change the player’s name in other Riot games, like League of Legends. Additionally, as the PC and console versions of VALORANT share the same Riot ID, the name change will take effect on PS5, Xbox, and PC simultaneously.

How many times can you change your VALORANT name?

VALORANT players must wait 90 days to change their name for free, but they can do so as many times as they want.

While players can change their name as often as they like, they can’t do it consecutively. After altering the name, users must wait at least 90 days before they can do it again. Due to that rule, constant modifications are not an option.

Additionally, aside from the free Riot ID change, there’s no way for players to alter or change their Riot ID. The only exception is if the player faces bullying or harassment because of their ID, in which case they can send a support ticket to Riot and hopefully get things sorted.
