These Fortnite Coachella skins are big cringe

Fortnite is usually one of the better cosmetic companies in the business. Epic Games completely changed the way gaming monetization worked, and secured some big-name crossovers in the process.

Ariana Grande, Travis Scott, Ninja, and Superman can fight a team made up of the Green Goblin, a Storm Trooper, Master Chief, and Rick Sanchez. Where else can you see that happen?

Thematic and crossover skins aren’t always a win. One look at the LazarBeam skin will tell you that. But even when it’s not, the skins rarely draw scrutiny.

Most of the time, I’ll let the boring skins pass and wait for some cool ones. Not this time.

These Fortnite x Coachella skins are pure cringe. They encapsulated the douchey, TikTok-obsessed Zoomers to a tee, but I don’t know if that’s what they were going for.

In a vacuum, these skins aren’t even that bad. I’d ignore them if they weren’t part of a crossover.

The feeling these skins give me is Fortnite x the cool kids – at least, who 30-year-old nerds think the cool kids are.

I’m a 30-year-old nerd as well. It’s not a knock on the team. It just feels so much like a “how do you do, fellow kids?” moment than a skin that people will buy.

Am I wrong? Am I the one that’s out of touch? I undoubtedly am. Not many of the Twitter replies are calling the skins cringe – just begging for Moon Knight, which I also want to see.

I don’t know, maybe I’m just being cynical.

I just feel like the Venn diagram of Fortnite players and Coachella attendees is two circles.
