Here’s why your Apex Legends rank just got reset

Apex Legends are suddenly reporting a surprise rank reset, but is this intentional from Respawn?

Apex Legends recently announced significant changes to rank rest in Season 22, clearly outlining how many ranks a person would demote at the start of each split. Those were reflected when the new season kick-started on August 6. However, Apex Legends players were met with a shocking surprise when they logged into their accounts on August 12. Each Apex Legends season lasts for a good three months, during which rank resets twice.

However, players were left confused when they saw all their ranked progress lost only a week after the newest season kicked off in August of 2024.

Why did Apex Legends rest ranks early?

According to Respawn, the ranked split ending early was not intentional, and it’s investigating the bug.

A large chunk of Apex Legends players lost all their ranked progress after logging into their accounts on August 12. Those who were biamond 3 were demoted to bronze 3 merely a week after rank reset. This wasn’t normal, and naturally, players assumed that Apex Legends had a surprise update on how splits work.

But that’s not the case. Respawn has acknowledged the bug in a new post on X.

“We’re aware of reports that the Apex Legends ranked split has ended early and are looking into it! We’ll let you know as soon as we have an update,” said Respawn.

Although players can breathe a sigh of relief, uncertainty remains around the rank reset timeline and whether they’ll need to start their grind from scratch. The latter is less likely to happen, but it’s safe to assume the worst considering this isn’t the first time this type of bug has marred player experience.

After the April Fool’s update went live, players logged in to find that their character stats and player ranks had dropped and, in some cases, had been wiped out. This bug seems like another repeat, and players aren’t happy with the response from Respawn.
