100 Thieves eliminate Team Falcons in shock CS2 BLAST Bounty Season 2 upset

In one of the most unexpected turns in recent Counter-Strike 2 esports history, 100 Thieves knocked tournament favorites Team Falcons out of BLAST Bounty Season 2. Closing out the second day of Stage 1, the underdog roster secured a close 2–1 victory, clutching a massive deficit on the deciding map to kick out the Cologne Major champions in their Fall season debut.

100 Thieves turned the series around at BLAST Bounty Season 2 

The Round of 32 series initially went just as planned, as Falcons dominated 100 Thieves on Nuke, cruising to a comfortable 13–4 win behind strong defensive play from Nikola “NiKo” Kovač. 

However, the momentum flipped dramatically when the teams moved to Falcons’ map pick, Dust2. Led by multi-kill rounds from Håvard “rain” Nygaard and crucial clutches by Nicolai “device” Reedtz, 100 Thieves responded with a strong 13–7 victory to force a third map.

The decider match on Anubis was absolute cinema. On the back of an impressive performance by Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov, Falcons bolted out to a 7–0 start and held a comfortable 9–3 cushion at halftime. Following the side swap, 100 Thieves’ newly appointed in-game leader, Jack “Gizmy” von Spreckelsen, executed a near-flawless T-side default. 

100 Thieves mounted an eight-round win streak to claim match point at 12–9. Although Finn “karrigan” Andersen temporarily kept Falcons alive with consecutive multi-kills, William “sirah” Kjærsgaard denied overtime by closing out a spectacular 1v3 clutch to seal the 13–11 victory.

BLAST Bounty Season 2 overview

BLAST Bounty Season 2 has a single-elimination, high-stakes format for Stage 1, where any defeat results in immediate elimination without lower-bracket second chances. Under the tournament’s bounty structure, lower-seeded teams deliberately select higher-seeded opponents to capture high-value ranking bounties. 

100 Thieves (seeded 31st) took full advantage by choosing 3rd-seeded Falcons, claiming a substantial boost in Valve Regional Standings (VRS) points alongside their ticket to Stage 2.

100 Thieves were not the only underdog to claim a bounty on day two. HOTU delivered a surprise 2–0 sweep over GamerLegion, making good use of their newly adjusted roster. 

Meanwhile, top-tier contenders G2 Esports and FaZe Clan avoided stumbles, securing clean victories against Nemiga and EYEBALLERS to advance safely into the next round.
