Valve teases 1v1 shootout overtime for CS2 Premier before deleting post
In a now-deleted post on X, the official Counter-Strike page sent some crazy waves across the fan base, as they suggested a radical revamp to the current tie-breaker system in CS2 Premier Mode.
Valve suggests massive changes to overtime rules in CS2
In a now deleted post titled “Thoughts?”, the official Counter-Strike X account proposed replacing traditional overtime in the event of a 15:15 tie with a series of structured 1v1 shootouts.

According to the post, the format would pit players against each other in individual 1v1 arenas based on their position on the match scoreboard.
Under this system, top fraggers would face top fraggers, second-place players would fight second-place players, and bottom fraggers would match up against bottom fraggers.
The order of the duels would be completely randomized, meaning a match’s top fragger might not compete until the fifth and final duel. Team members would spectate their teammates during each arena match, and the first team to win three out of the five 1v1 duels would be declared the overall match winner.
Shortly after creating quite a buzz online, Valve later deleted the post, leaving fans to speculate whether the post was a serious feature concept or just a thought experiment.
Predicting the odds: will Valve actually implement the feature?
Following the social media post, a dedicated market was created on the prediction market platform Polymarket, asking whether Valve will officially add a shootout-based overtime format to CS2’s Premier mode on or before December 31.
According to the resolution rules defined on Polymarket, the market will only resolve to “Yes” if Valve publishes an official update adding a tie-breaking 1v1 shootout format to Premier mode on or before December 31, 2026, at 11:59 PM ET.

The rules clarify that teasers, deleted X posts, survey posts, third-party tournament rule sets, or unreleased datamined files do not qualify; the feature must actually go live in an official published patch.
At the time of writing, Polymarket traders predict just an 8% chance that Valve will officially implement the Shootout OT format by the deadline.
Valve has a long-standing history of posting teasers, community polls, and conceptual jokes on social media without ever translating them into live gameplay features. The fact that the post was quickly deleted further suggests that the developers were either testing the waters or simply making a reference to traditional sports penalty shootouts.
Besides that, the overwhelming pushback from core competitive players who view 1v1 arenas as antithetical to CS2’s core design, it is highly unlikely Valve will push such a controversial change to Premier mode in the near future.
Unless Valve makes an uncharacteristic pivot to overhaul Premier’s competitive structure before the end of the year, traders expect this prediction market to comfortably resolve to “No.”
