Apex Legends map rotation explained for every game mode

Apex Legends features multiple maps, but with one of the most complicated rotation systems in any competitive shooter, fans will want to know which maps they’ll play on.

Most battle royale games let players choose their preferred map or force them to participate in a particular one. However, Apex Legends goes a different route by having a map rotation system that changes depending on the season. The game has 14 maps spread across multiple playlists. Players must understand how the map rotations in Apex Legends work if they want to play in their favorite one.

Here is how the Apex Legends map rotation system works for every game mode and which maps are in the current rotation.

How does the map pool work in Apex Legends work?

The map ool in Apex Legends changes after a set amount of time, and it is unique for every game mode.

There are three game modes in Apex Legends, each with a different rotation time. Below is everything players need to know about the three mode’s rotation times:

  • The casual mode has three unique maps rotating every 90 minutes
  • The ranked league includes three maps, but two are active at a time and altering every 24 hours
  • The mixtape playlist has maps and game modes changing every 15 minutes

The battle royale mode’s map rotation lasts the entire season, while the mixtape mode’s maps change every few weeks.

An exception to the rotation system is when the game introduces a new map or an older one gets a major overhaul at the beginning of the season. When that happens, that map becomes the only one players can play in for a week or two, making the map rotation moot for that time.
