BOOM Esports disbands Dota 2 division days away from DreamLeague S27

Indonesian esports organization BOOM Esports has disbanded its Dota 2 roster just days away from their next tournament. BOOM was scheduled to participate in DreamLeague Season 27, but with the announcement of the roster’s disbandment, the team will now compete under their own banner.

News of the roster’s departure broke on Dec. 8, with an official announcement on the team’s social media. However, for several days, rumors that the team may be competing at DL S27 under a different banner have swirled.

BOOM Esports out of Dota 2 two days out from DreamLeague Season 27

BOOM Esports has been a staple of the Southeast Asian Dota 2 scene since 2017. Initially an Indonesian-focused org, in 2022 it expanded into a more general SEA focus. Since then, the team has seen a variety of successes, with appearances at multiple editions of The International.

Unfortunately, this success, and their position as one of the top teams in the SEA region, were not enough to keep the Dota 2 roster. BOOM Esports also operates rosters in VALORANT, PUBG Mobile, and Honor of Kings.

On social media, BOOM Esports founder Gary Ongko expressed his feelings on the departure:

“GGs good runs everyone appreciate the 2 TIs and achieving one of my original goals when I created an Esports team. Every player were amazing and I hope I treated you well. Many friends I made in D2 I’ll still see you guys around I’m sure. On to the next chapter!”

However, this might not be the end of the line for the BOOM Esports roster. The stack are still currently scheduled to compete at DreamLeague S27, which kicks off in two days time. Rumors and unverified reports, which began to appear over the weekend (Dec. 7) appeared to point to an acquisition of the roster by Team Nemesis, another SEA organization.

Diorite, a social media-based Dota 2 news source, pointed to reported insider information that Team Nemesis will take over Boom Esports’ place in DreamLeague Season 27. However, no official announcement has been made at the time of writing.

Additionally, rosters for many of the DreamLeague Season 27 teams have yet to be officially published just days out from the event.
