ruggah retires from CS2 coaching after more than a decade

After more than a decade of coaching experience, Casper “ruggah” Due has announced the end of his coaching career.

Most recently, the 38-year-old led team Astralis at the IEM Cologne Major, but was released shortly after due to a poor result. Casper didn’t join a team over the summer, but he did appear as a pundit on the recently finished BLAST Open Fall 2026.

After 10 years of leading CS teams, I’ve decided it’s time to step away from coaching. I’m incredibly grateful to everyone I’ve shared the journey with. It’s been one hell of a ride. Thank you.” ruggah announced via X on September 7th, 2026

Rich Counter-Strike history

Ruggah spent years as a professional Counter-Strike player, dating back to the golden days of Counter-Strike Source in 2008. Fnatic, Copenhagen Wolves and Playzone were some of his biggest organizations during the CS:S era.

In the early days of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, ruggah wore the colors of Blight Gaming and Anexis eSports, before putting on the coaching attire and signing for Team Dignitas.

Since then, ruggah coached Dignitas, North, OpTic Gaming, OG, and Astralis. His longest tenure was at OG, where he coached from January 2020 through March 2024.

He was also a part of the 2020 ESIC controversy, where he got banned due to exploiting the coach spectating bug. More precisely, he received a 3.75-month ban from the Esports Integrity Commission (ESIC) and a one-Major ban from Valve.

What’s next for ruggah?

Just like kassad, moses, and YNk, ruggah has already started exploring new roles within Counter-Strike’s competitive environment. As mentioned earlier, he has already appeared as a pundit at the BLAST Open Fall 2026, where he gained much praise for such a natural transition from coaching to punditry.

That said, it’s only logical to expect more similar roles in the foreseeable future, though nothing tangible has been announced yet. Stay tuned for more esports news.
