Every year, The International is more than just a Dota 2 tournament. It’s a gathering, a celebration, and in many ways, the beating heart of the Dota community. TI14 was no exception. From unexpected in-game quirks to unforgettable reunions with friends, fans, casters, and creators each had their own reasons for loving this year’s event.

The memorable moments of TI14

For many, TI14 wasn’t defined solely by the matches, but by the quirks that made it uniquely memorable. Basedefender, a caster for the EPL, highlighted one such moment: The Pango bug where Xtreme Gaming’s XM found himself trapped outside of the map. “Valve small indy company”.

Streamer Lifeits3lf agreed that the off-stage memories were just as important as the games themselves. “Seeing friends and the merch on sale were the highlights for me,” she shared, while also expressing her hope that PVISION would clinch the Aegis.

Ver8ter, previously a producer with Dota Valkyries, echoed a similar sentiment. “Seeing my friends and the opening ceremony,” he said, before noting he’d had been hoping for a new Crownfall-style event announcement and, ideally, a five-game grand final to cap it all off.

The Spirit of community alive and well at TI14

For others, TI14 was all about connections. Doedie, who we spoke with in depth, said simply: “Seeing friends makes TI special.” That feeling of reunion carried across the event, giving it the atmosphere of a festival rather than just a competition.

Caster Nomad added another perspective, focusing on the passion and effort of everyone involved. “The energy, the effort, the work everyone puts in, makes TI different from anything else.”

More than a tournament

If there was a single through line across all these conversations, it was this: TI is more than a tournament. It’s a living, breathing celebration of Dota 2 itself. From old friends reconnecting to fans passionately backing their favorite teams, TI14 left no doubt that the game still inspires and unites people worldwide.

As one attendee put it, “In-person at TI, it’s hard to imagine anything but Dota living forever.”
