Dplus KIA wins the League of Legends EWC 2026: Final day recap

Dplus KIA wins the League of Legends Esports World Cup 2026! DK beat Karmine Corp 3-0 in the grand final. Meanwhile, Gen.G also took down T1 in the third place match. Here’s our recap of the LoL EWC 2026 final day.

Gen.G vs T1 (2-1)

After a World Cup full of upsets and even an LCK Spring Split that defied the usual order, this match was oddly normal. The outcome follows the power rankings, Gen.G is back to defeating T1, even the kill score is within standards for a game involving T1.

All games were one-sided, without back and forths or crazy comebacks. Gen.G took the first one, T1 answered in turn, and Gen.G closed out the series.

Most series at the tail end of the tournament followed the same pattern: game 1 is for mages bot and roaming supports, game 2 is back to normal. This match was no exception. The teams even brought some new surprises in bot lane Sylas and top lane AP Varus. In the end, Gen.G simply outclassed T1 on the day.

Karmine Corp vs Dplus KIA (0-3)

After beating two tournament favorites in Bilibili Gaming and Gen.G, DK finally played a match as the favorite in the grand final. Sure enough, they proved that they deserved that recognition.

The first game remained relatively close for a bit, but DK caught KC in a draft trap. Locking in two heavy tanks after Karmine had already picked Ziggs as their bot laner, they made Kim “Canna” Chang-dong go for a blind Vayne. Jeon “Siwoo” Si-woo responded with Tristana, and DK got three pushing lanes. Dplus KIA soon built an insurmountable lead.

Game 2 was KC’s hope. Bot lane Ezreal-Bard, mid lane Anivia, those are the picks they’ve looked most comfortable on. However, the early game did not go as planned. Caitlyn-Lux snowballed into zoning KC out of everything, and despite Canna’s three solo kills, the game was still DK’s.

The final map looked hopeless from the start. A shaky draft, laning that went wrong, skirmish execution that went even worse. This was one of KC’s worst games in the tournament, and DK claimed the 3-0.

Dplus KIA wins the LoL EWC 2026

Everything about this tournament was crazy. The West got wiped out besides KC, while all seven LPL and LCK teams advanced to the playoffs. Then, five out of eight matches were upsets. Neither KC nor DK was expected to reach the final, and now DK hoists the trophy and receives $600,000.

For Dplus KIA, this is incredible news as the organisation has been critically lacking funding. For Europe, this also establishes that G2 Esports doesn’t carry the region alone.

In fact, this run by Dplus KIA puts G2’s defeat back into perspective. While they had a disappointing early exit, it turns out that they lost to the eventual champion who overcame both BLG and Gen.G.

The LoL EWC 2026 was home to a quickly evolving meta. Alongside regular bot lanes, teams also look to pick permanently roaming supports who will act as second junglers. This then allows the bot laners to pick mages, which reshapes the rest of the comp. As teams get a short break, this will allow them to better grasp this new meta before the Summer Split begins.
