Gen.G vs T1 match analysis
Gen.G vs T1 is a matchup that we’ve seen times and times again, and it’s not as Gen.G-favored as it seems like. The last time they met, it was the World champions who went away with the win and the MSI qualification.
However, T1 has shown major issues in the past few days. At MSI, G2 Esports beat them by punishing their regular mistakes. At EWC, their ability to hold a lead has not quite been there.
Mun “Oner” Hyeon-jun has had several particularly poor games. Against KC, Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok also pulled off highly questionable Ryze Realm Warps. The result was a disjointed team that didn’t know what they wanted from a fight or how to play it.
In their final game yesterday, they got an overwhelming lead through bot and top plays, with a good scaling comp. They pushed their lead to 6k gold, then threw it away by actively taking bad fights. The problem is that they then repeated the process three more times. Besides, the same story happened in their final game against G2 at MSI.
T1 still embodies the circus. When the game can have action from minute 1 and until the Nexus falls, they’re comfortable. With both teams making more mistakes, they come out on top.
However, they regularly lose control of said circus. Whenever the game pace is lower, their own cracks show much more.
As for Gen.G, there’s little to say about them. Gen.G simply plays the game well the way they always have. It’s just not dominant like it used to be, but they’re not making egregious mistakes.
