While it wasn’t an easy road, G2 Esports managed to make it through the play-in and into the bracket stage of this year’s MSI. By contrast, it was completely smooth sailing for Gen.G, who hasn’t lost a single match since the last LCK split began in April. With such a difference in the performance and recent history between these two teams, it makes sense that Gen.G is the overwhelming favorite to win against G2 in this stage’s first round.

G2 vs Gen.G match overview

  • Tournament: MSI 2025
  • Stage: Bracket stage
  • Game: League of Legends
  • Format: Best-of-five

Betting tip: Gen.G has showcased excellent gameplay and taken down multiple strong teams, and there’s a high chance the team’s winning streak will continue here.

G2 vs Gen.G match analysis

It wouldn’t be farfetched to say that Caps is the reason G2 Esports has gotten as far as it has. The team’s mid-laner is consistently level-headed in his approach to the game. This ensures he makes smart plays that either give him a good enough lead to sweep his lane, or let him set up elsewhere for various objectives. While jungler Skewmond also has his moments, he has to gank the top and bottom lanes to assist in either area of the map, which leads to the player losing out on farm, objectives, or both.

Hans Sama and Labrov are good players, but Hans Sama seemingly isn’t able to carry as frequently as his role demands. A good example of this is the recent match against GAM, where Hans Sama wasn’t able to make his presence known after the laning phase in any of the five games played, even in games in which he had a significant gold advantage. The team’s top laner is fairly unreliable and has a habit of taking unnecessary fights when he even has a minor gold advantage. G2 can turn things around if BrokenBlade opts to go for a beefier champion who can safely farm and become a late-game menace, but his dips in play at MSI are scary for G2 fans.

gen.g player Chovy

As for Gen.G’s bot lane, Kiin is consistent enough to ensure he never feeds the enemy, primarily thanks to his map awareness and knowledge of both when to push forward and when to back out. This means the player doesn’t usually carry, but that isn’t a problem. Canyon and Chovy have the most carry potential for Gen.G by far. The two players have excellent mid and jungle synergy, and Chovy’s mechanical skills ensure he frequently outplays the enemy mid laner.

Ruler is sometimes overshadowed by his high-performing teammates, but that isn’t to say he isn’t any good. The Gen.G bot lane’s strength usually lies in the late game, when Ruler’s high damage and Duro’s initiations cause problems for the enemy team. Considering G2’s bot lane is relatively weak compared to other teams Gen.G faces off against, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Ruler and Duro opt to play on the offensive and try to shut down G2’s ADC and support early on, rather than waiting for late-game opportunities to arise.

G2 vs Gen.G betting picks and predictions

While Gen.G is the favorite to win the match by a landslide, G2 could cause an upset if it plays smart. The team will likely want to be more aggressive from the start to shut down either the middle or bottom lane. By gaining a significant gold advantage, G2 will be able to acquire more objectives and snowball that advantage into a victory. However, giving any Gen.G player a chance to gain the upper hand will likely end badly for G2 as the LCK representative knows how to close out a game with an advantage.

Best picks

  • Total maps over 3.5 @ 2.39: While the consensus is that Gen.G will sweep G2 with a 3-0 score, look for G2 to take at least one game in a show of the team’s potential ability.
  • Both teams to slay a dragon @ 1.34: Gen.G frequently gives the dragon in exchange for Herald or Baron, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see the same happen here.
