All MSI winners in LoL: MSI trophy

The Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) is the second biggest League of Legends international tournament. Behind the World Championship in prestige, it gathers the best two teams (formerly best team) from each region.

Here are all the LoL MSI winners from 2015 to 2026.

MSI 2015 winner: EDward Gaming

The first Mid-Season Invitational winner was EDward Gaming. T1 was the predicted winner for this tournament, and they went 5-0 in the Round Robin.

However, EDG met them in the grand final and beat them 3-2. EDward Gaming famously left up Faker’s undefeated Leblanc in the final game, to counterpick with Morgana and win the trophy.

After winning the 2015 World Championship, SKT T1 went on to continue their streak at the next Mid-Season Invitational. Their Group Stage wasn’t impressive, with Royal Never Give Up taking the lead and Flash Wolves reaffirming themselves as Korean killers. However, they then beat RNG in the semifinal, then swept Counter-Logic Gaming to win their first Mid-Season Invitational title.

MSI 2017 winner: SKT T1

In Worlds 2015, MSI 2016, Worlds 2016, and MSI 2017; SKT T1 was in its golden era. This time, they were the clear strongest team from the get-go. G2 Esports rose to face them and claim one game off them in the grand final, but that was the extent of their struggle.

SKT T1 won this tournament with a game score of 14-3. This was their second title back-to-back, and their last one to date.

MSI 2018 winner: Royal Never Give Up

In their second MSI appearance, RNG once again topped the Group Stage. Despite facing Fnatic in one of its best years and a Kingzone DragonX in great shape, RNG was a proper superteam.

In 2018, with hall of famer Jian “Uzi” Zi-Hao and an overall stacked roster, Royal Never Give Up was in prime position to sweep the whole year. However, their golden road was cut short by G2 at Worlds. Before that, they did have a masterful MSI performance and claimed their first trophy.

After recruiting Rasmus “Caps” Winther, G2 was the strongest team that Europe had ever seen. In the Group Stage, the LEC champions did what’s expected of them by now: they won both matches against SKT while losing both against the Vietnamese representative.

Then, G2 beat SKT, making it the first ever European best-of-five win against Korea. This led them to an EU vs NA final, sure to crown a new region in a tournament that only CN and KR had ever won. G2 then won against Team Liquid in the fastest international best-of-five ever.

MSI 2021 winner: Royal Never Give Up

(Note: MSI 2020 was canceled due to Covid-19.)

2021 was RNG’s second Mid-Season Invitational victory, and the second year in which China won both League of Legends international tournaments. A very top-heavy tournament, MSI 2021 was all about the reigning world champion DWG KIA and RNG.

This event was filled with picks that would make little sense today. Top lane Lee Sin and Nocturne; jungle Morgana, Udyr, or Rumble; mid lane Renekton, Nocturne, or Lucian. In the end, RNG won their second title off the back of a five-game series.

2022 was when the scriptwriters decided the previous year worked just fine. The event had T1 and RNG as their stars, and that was it.

G2 and Evil Geniuses were there and were even competitive in the Rumble Stage. In fact, the LEC representative went 2-2 against them. Come playoffs though, they both got swept, and RNG won the grand final 3-2.

With that victory, RNG became the only team to win MSI thrice, despite only qualifying four times. To this day, no one has managed to tie their record.

MSI 2023 winner: JD Gaming

In 2023, the Mid-Season Invitational format changed significantly. Formerly, the top team of each region qualified to play a double round robin leading into a top four single-elimination knockout.

Now, the tournament features the top two teams of each league. After a play-in, they’re seeded into a double elimination, eight-team bracket.

With four teams in the competition, the event was all about Korea and China. EU and NA immediately went out after going 2-18 against the East (with the wins only being G2’s). Then, JD Gaming and Bilibili Gaming tag-teamed to eliminate T1 and Gen.G for an all-LPL final. JDG won the final to give the LPL its fifth Mid-Season Invitational title.

MSI 2024 winner: Gen.G

Gen.G came back for their vengeance the next year, and they got it. With the same two culprits representing Korea, they were able to take down China this time.

In 2024, G2 managed to actually compete, and they even eliminated Top Esports. Even then, the top three remained all East once more. Gen.G took down Bilibili Gaming 3-1 twice, and brought the title to South Korea for the first time in seven years.

In 2023, China beat Korea at every turn to finish with an all-Chinese final. 2025 was the opposite. This time, Gen.G and T1 beat Bilibili Gaming and Anyone’s Legend each time they met. The top four was exclusively Eastern, but the top two decidedly were from the LCK.

Gen.G was once again the MSI winner after beating T1 twice, both times in five games. Now, four of all MSI winners are from the LCK, against five from the LPL and one from the LEC.

MSI 2026 winner: Hanwha Life Esports

This year, Hanwha Life Esports came out on top after an intense 3-2 grand final against BLG. The series was one of continuous ups-and-downs, with BLG almost taking the win in the fourth game. However, a stellar comeback forced the series into game five, where HLE closed the tournament.
