Why the market favors Gen.G
Strangely, this is the first playoff match between Gen.G and HLE of all 2026. Those two teams have been the two strongest candidates for the title of best team in the LCK but have yet to settle that feud themselves.
Part of why Gen.G is favored is their name. From 2024 all the way to Winter 2026, Gen.G was the unbeatable team at the head of the LCK. The only place to take them down is Worlds quarterfinals or semifinals, where their level suddenly plummets.
At First Stand 2026, G2 Esports clean swept them and they’ve never been the same since then. Losing matches left and right, they finished the 2026 regular season with their worst score since 2023. Worse, they even failed to qualify for the Mid-Season Invitational, and their Esports World Cup run ended in the semifinal again.
If Gen.G is no longer the best team in the world, where does that put them? Not far away, as it turns out. Despite everything, they still finished the 2026 regular season in first place, which is why the esports prediction markets favor them.
Hanwha Life Esports tied them in match score, and has had a more impressive year. HLE not only attended MSI, they also won it. However, whenever Gen.G starts looking great again, the community knows just how far they can take it, and no other team has shown the highs that they have proven.
Against KT Rolster, Gen.G showed these colors again. Meanwhile, HLE had to reverse sweep T1 while coming close to losing a third game.
While Seo “Kanavi” Jin-hyeok can entirely turn the matchup on its head for HLE and particularly against Kim “Canyon” Geon-bu, he’s no consistent player to rely on.

Our prediction
Prediction: Gen.G to win
In their recent weeks, Gen.G has found their consistency again. There’s no telling how long that will hold, but none in the LCK rivals their peak in domestic matches. As for HLE, they haven’t been stable at all. To make matters worse, they’ve also lost their last two Bo3s against Gen.G in the LCK.
