Why the market favors Gen.G

Gen.G will be the LoL Worlds favorite against any opponent, that’s just how strong they are. The team dominated the entire esports scene in 2024 and 2025. This year, they faltered but have now come back – stronger than ever, possibly. So after months of the best team in the world being out of the picture, Gen.G is once again this towering superpower.

GEN is a team that has extremely solid bases all around and wins through them. The players are individually all excellent and better than the competition. As a result, they spend the entire game passively generating leads through better laning, better wave management, better roams and recall timings.

In Summer 2026 though, they improved this approach by now also being much more proactive. Gen.G’s former passivity used to be their strength as a slow and controlled team that left no weaknesses to exploit. Later on, it became their weakness as a new meta allowed their opposition to just walk over them.

Now, they’re just as methodical, while also going for plays themselves and defending when attacked. The one weakness that Gen.G has is that their support-jungle synergy isn’t the best. However, neither is it for most of the other top teams at the moment.

On the other hand, Invictus Gaming is a much less stable team. The players have high peaks and that is how the solo lanes earned their Worlds title. A high peak doesn’t mean that it’ll actualize in game, though, and this makes Invictus Gaming vs Gen.G lean heavily towards the LCK.

Gen.G’s semifinal curse

The one question mark around this match is the LCK champion’s Worlds curse. Supposedly the best team in the world, Gen.G has never managed to make it past the semifinal of the World Championship. Neither has Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon on his former teams.

No matter how strong they look, they get taken out before. Last year, KT Rolster impossibly defeated them in the semis. In 2024, it was the T1 that they kept beating throughout the year. In 2023, Bilibili Gaming defeated Gen.G.

This is due to several reasons. First, Worlds is a tournament where the meta evolves over time, as pros spend a month on a single patch, and GEN doesn’t adapt well to this. Second, there’s the mounting pressure of the expectations. Third, the weight of that curse has to get to the players’ minds.

What traders are saying

As expected, people solely comment on Gen.G’s curse. Part of the expectation is that IG will defeat Gen.G out of nowhere just to get swept in the grand final. The rest of it is that there’s no way that IG wins.

Prediction: Gen.G to win

Curse aside, GEN is just the better team by far. Betting on them isn’t safe at all though, naturally. However, the Worlds meta has remained stable for once, which removes one of Gen.G’s weaknesses.
