HANJIN BRION beats KT Rolster 2-0 in the LCK Rounds 1-2

The LCK’s 9th place HANJIN BRION just beat KT Rolster 2-0. KT was undefeated until their match against Hanwha Life Esports and was still tied for first place with a score of 8-1. With that defeat and HLE beating T1, KT now lags behind in second place as we enter LCK Round 2 and approach Road to MSI.

BRO opened up game 1 by getting a duo lane kill. KT then returned with a successful mid lane gank, and this was a good indicator of what would follow. BRO went for aggressive plays all around the map with a jungle Lee Sin and support Elise.

As for KT, Gwak “Bdd” Bo-seong kept building his lead with ganks and solo kills. As a result, KT won everywhere Bdd was, and BRO came out on top for the remainder of the time.

Eventually though, Park “Teddy” Jin-seong pulled further and further ahead and became too much for even Bdd to deal with. At the same time, Kim “GIDEON” Min-seong was going for crazy plays and got increasingly fed.

It took 40 minutes for BRO to win, but with a 28-minute Dragon soul, KT had long lost their grasp on the game by then.

While game 1 was all about ganks and skirmishes, the second map revolved around teamfights. Fighting over every objective, the river quickly piled up with bodies both blue and red.

For 20 minutes, the two teams stayed close. Then, BRO won a first fight at minute 25, then another at 28. At that point, it was all but over, and they closed out the series three minutes later.

A 4-0 week for BRO, a 0-4 week for KT

KT started the week undefeated, to then lose 0-2 against HLE and then BRO. As for them, they were initially 1-7 and now won both matches 2-0.

BRO has historically never been taken seriously in the LCK, and KT has completely dominated the LCK Round 1. Somehow though, the result of this match is very on-brand for both teams. KT has a habit of losing when they’re most expected to win, and BRO occasionally pulls off those upsets.

However, there are two notable takeaways from this match. First, HANJIN BRION looked unusually menacing. Not only were they mechanically on point, but they also played with strong coordination.

Second, KT’s standing is now in danger. Formerly untouchable in first place, KT Rolster is now in second with HLE having a one-match lead. Worse, they’re only one match above Gen.G and two over T1 and Dplus KIA.

Sixth place and the threat of the Rise Group are far below, but KT and HLE no longer make up an isolated top 2. Instead, the LCK Rounds 1-2 now has a clear top 3 with a close top 5.
