Karmine Corp vs Cloud9: LoL Worlds opening match predictions

The 2026 League of Legends World Championship opens with a grudge match between EU and NA, on October 15, 8pm CEST. Karmine Corp and Cloud9 have never faced off before, but months’ worth of bragging rights lie on their shoulders. The prediction markets have KC as the favorite to win the first match of Worlds 2026. However, KC’s record at the Mid-Season Invitational doesn’t speak in their favor.

Why the market favors Karmine Corp
There’s a lot going on behind that Worlds prediction. The two obvious factors are that by default, Karmine Corp is a better team than Cloud9, and EU a better region than NA. The LEC outperforms the LCS at nearly every LoL event ever.
Individually, KC’s players are overall on a higher level too. Martin “Yike” Sundelin and Caliste “Caliste” Henry-Hennebert are both prodigies in their roles. Kim “Canna” Chang-dong is on a level that NA top laners don’t have. Lastly, Alan “Busio” Cwalina has already dominated the LCS for two full years, going 4-0 against Cloud9 in best-of-fives with FlyQuest.
The only blemish on this record is Kang “kyeahoo” Ye-hoo’s worrying current form. While weeks have elapsed since KC’s elimination from the LEC, Lee “Loki” Sang-min could beat their mid laner if he hasn’t woken up since then.
On paper, everything favors KC and this is why the market is going this way. However, Karmine Corp’s ability to bomb out of a bracket cannot be underestimated.
At MSI 2026, Team Liquid beat them 3-0. This wasn’t a one-off problem either. KC sometimes appears to be overconfident, face an opponent that gives them unexpected problems, and be unable to fix their gameplan accordingly .
Caliste walks a fine line between carrying and overconfidence. His determination to skill check his opponents usually results in setting him ahead, but is sometimes also the cause of unnecessary trouble for KC. Coming off of a 0-3 against Movistar KOI, Karmine Corp has probably taken a deep look at themselves, though.
C9 is also a team that underperforms when the stakes are high. This is another reason why the market favors Karmine Corp.

What traders are saying
Reddit users on League of Legends mostly have no idea what to expect out of this match-up. The next biggest group is of the opinion that Cloud9 will stomp KC – before losing to FURIA. Everyone agrees on the fact that they don’t trust Karmine Corp. However, half of them don’t trust C9 any more either.
Our prediction
Prediction: Karmine Corp to win
Lots of factors go into this match, and they combine into something unpredictable. How will KC fare after their loss to MKOI, how will C9 do at an international after three years, how will both teams’ read on the meta be on day 1 of Worlds? With all of that being unforeseeable, it’s best to fall back on the aspects that are certain. Since they are a better and more clutch team, we predict KC to win the series.
