LCS Summer Playoffs LYON vs C9 prediction: LYON

The second round of the LCS Summer playoffs 2026 starts with LYON vs Cloud9. On September 19, at 10pm CEST / 4pm EST, LYON and C9 will face off for one of North America’s three spots at the 2026 League of Legends World Championship. The winner gets their qualification and moves up to the upper final, while the loser will have one more chance through the lower bracket. Unsurprisingly, the prediction markets have LYON as the strong favorite in this match-up.

Why the market favors LYON

Let’s address the elephant in the room first. Cloud9 has not won a single qualification match since 2023. No matter how good they may be in the regular season, playoffs go well until it’s time to play the matches with stakes on the line.

SplitRegular season placement and scorePlayoffs placementPlayoffs placement required for qualificationMatch score (Game score) in qualifying matches

The moment they’re playing a qualification match, everything crumbles. The teamplay is suddenly disjointed, players no longer win their lanes, and each flaw the team has is amplified tenfold.

Robert “Blaber” Huang has a habit of going for greedy camps and making it work. In those matches, the opponents punish him for it and set C9 on the backfoot from the get-go. Similarly, the plays from Philippe “Vulcan” Laflamme stop being these mastermind moves and instead just get countered.

This is how these matches go even when C9 dominates the regular season. This time, they’re in no such position. Team Liquid and LYON both stomped them during the round robin. There’s no telling how they’re going to adapt from there, but they were no match for LYON when they last met.

Even though Kacper “Inspired” Słoma had just been back with his team after a five-week leave, the team outclassed Cloud9 at every turn. There was no apparent rust and LYON always found an angle to crush them through.

LYON is a team that excels at teamfights and that doesn’t take unnecessary risks. If contesting a dragon would require a bad fight, they don’t try to go for it and instead trade on the map. If they’re ahead, they don’t take objectives that aren’t entirely safe from a steal. That makes them consistent for a Bo5.

What traders are saying

Users on the League of Legends subreddit believe that LYON will go 3-0 against Cloud9 if they don’t step up after their series against Shopify Rebellion. While they beat SR 3-0, they gave them way too much leeway for the caliber of their opponent. On the other hand, they agree that Edward “Tactical” Ra has been a strong upgrade over Jesper “Zven” Svenningsen and that this gives them some chances.

Our prediction

Prediction: LYON to win

The level gap between LYON and Cloud9 is heavy, and so is C9’s history. Cloud9 did change part of their roster since the last split, but their curse has persisted across numerous iterations of the team. The only two players that have been on C9 since the start of 2024 are Blaber and Vulcan. LYON should have no problem winning this match.
