PGL and data provider Runestone extend partnership, add Dota 2 to their deal

Tournament organizer PGL and esports data provider Runestone have announced an extension to their partnership, expanding the scope of the collaboration to include Dota 2 data.

The three-year extension, revealed by release on April 2, but reported widely on April 15, will see the partnership, which names Runestone the official data partner for PGL’s entire suite of tournaments, will continue through 2029.

PGL and Runestone to continue their partnership for the next 3 years

As per reports, the partnerships aims are to provide “technical consistency” across PGL’s multiple tournament ecosystems, helping provide a better viewing experience for fans.

This includes fan engagement, transparent stats and data, and a overall better environment for fans while enjoying PGL events.

As per the release:

“PGL is recognized for technical milestones and for producing world-class events, including the first Counter-Strike 2 Major in Copenhagen. This technical framework is powered by the integration of Runestone’s data infrastructure, which provides the low-latency backbone required for PGL’s high-fidelity broadcasts.”

Shane Clarke, managing director of Runestone, explained in an accompanying comment that it was “[PGL and Runestone’s] shared vision to push the boundaries of event production.”

“Extending our partnership with PGL reflects the trust we’ve built delivering in high-pressure environments. Over the past few years, we’ve grown our footprint together, and we’re proud to keep building on that. Our focus is simple: reliable, real-time data they can depend on, whether it’s a Major final or a qualifier”

Clarke, who to Dota 2 fans may be known better as Shaneomad, former caster and commentator turned ESL’s director of game ecosystems for Dota 2, has a long history with Dota, although has been a part of Runestone since at least 2025.

Silviu Stroie, CEO of PGL, also added his thoughts:

“Extending our partnership with PGL reflects the trust we’ve built delivering in high-pressure environments. Over the past few years, we’ve grown our footprint together, and we’re proud to keep building on that. Our focus is simple: reliable, real-time data they can depend on, whether it’s a Major final or a qualifier”

PGL’s next major tournament is PGL Wallachia Season 8, part of a now storied series of events which have run since 2024. With $1,000,000 on the line on the LAN event, and hosted at PGL’s own studio in Bucharest, Romania, the tournament is set to be a thrilling one, now enhanced by additional data support by Runestone.
