The League of Legends Pro League is the tier 1 competition in China. The LPL Knight’s Rivals is the play-in of Split 3 for that league. Four teams play one best-of-five each, for the two winners to join the other six teams in the playoffs.
Usually, the play-in would favor the two representatives from Group Ascend over their Nirvana counterparts. However, this split is different.
Coming from Group Nirvana are Invictus Gaming and Ninjas in Pyjamas. IG won the 2018 World Championship, and fell down to the lower group while their star top and mid laners were taking a break. This split, Kang “TheShy” Seung-Iok and Song “Rookie” Eui-jin are back with the team, turning IG into a proper powerhouse again.
As for NIP, they finished the regular season 6-0, beating IG twice in the process. While they don’t have famous names like Invictus Gaming does, they showed just as much of a reason to be respected.
On the other hand, EDward Gaming and ThunderTalk Gaming were clearly below the rest of their group in Split 3. For once, the Group Nirvana contenders are the favorites in the LPL Knight’s Rivals.
