Valve just dropped a bombshell on all CS2 players with their latest update, which overhauls the reloading mechanic inside the game.

It will be interesting to see how some of the best CS2 players get accustomed to such a fundamental mechanics change in upcoming CS2 events.

Here’s all you need to know about the update.

How has reloading changed?

In the update notes, Valve stated:

“We think the decision to reload should have higher stakes, so in today’s update, reloading has been redesigned.”

Following the changes, players will need to pay close attention to when they reload and how much ammunition they have left in the chamber.

Before the update, CS2 players could reload at any moment in time, and the bullets that were left in the chamber would be stashed back for later use.

Now, if a player reloads their weapon after firing off half their magazine, the remaining bullets will get discarded with the reload. This means no more spamming smokes if you want to have any bullets left for the clutch.

Along with the reloading update, the total number of bullets and clips for many weapons has changed. The AWP, for example, will now have 15 total rounds instead of 30, requiring snipers to dial in their precision.

Scrawny Reload Update Thoughts

It’s safe to say the majority of the Counter-Strike community didn’t see this update coming. Most people commenting on forums and threads have deemed the change unnecessary when other, more pressing issues need fixing.

On the contrary, a considerable number of well-known personalities within the Counter-Strike scene, including casters and other talent members, voiced rather optimistic opinions about the update on social media.

Most arguments for the reloading overhaul are the end of annoying smoke spams, more tactical layers to think about, and increasing the skill ceiling. Time will tell if that’s going to be the case.

The first tier one event featuring the update will probably be PGL Bucharest. BLAST Open Rotterdam is going on right now, but BLAST announced that the event will be carried out on the previous version of the game.
