In what could be one of the biggest cross-regional roster moves ahead of the VCT 2027 season, G2 Esports’ star in-game leader Jacob “valyn” Batio is reportedly set to join European powerhouse FNATIC.

According to reports, the American IGL and controller specialist has reached an agreement to helm the orange-and-black banner in EMEA. The move marks a monumental shift for both regions, bringing a top-tier North American shotcaller to an EMEA giant, which is desperate to win back its international reputation.

Valyn is the one FNATIC needs

For FNATIC, acquiring Valyn fulfills two critical roster needs. One, it provides them a world-class controller on smokes as well as an established, elite-level IGL.

The 22-year-old North American leader built his reputation during a legendary stint with The Guard, spearheading their rise to the 2022 NA Stage 1 Challengers trophy before winning VCT Ascension Americas in 2023.

After G2 Esports picked up the core roster for their 2024 VCT Americas debut, Valyn proved his tactical mind translated seamlessly to tier-one international stages, steering G2 to a podium third-place finish at Masters Shanghai.

While Valyn previously had a verbal agreement lined up with LYON contingent on partnership status, FNATIC swooped in to secure his signature for the upcoming 2027 circuit.

Community reacts to this potential move

The report sparked some passionate discussions on social media, with everyone discussing what importing an NA shotcaller means for FNATIC’s tactical direction.

On X, @20shwn was one of the first prominent community members who shared the news on the potential leak, kicking off widespread reaction over the sheer ambition of FNATIC bringing over one of America’s premier leaders.

One of the fans made a very valid observation, saying, “The roster is complete, but we have 2 igl right now? Cloud and Valyn…could it work? In any case, I have no doubt that the roster is very strong, and I’m curious to see how well they work together, especially with the new coaches.“

From our perspective, signing Valyn can become a significant move that proves FNATIC is refusing to settle for regionals. Importing a top-tier IGL from the Americas brings a fresh tactical perspective to an EMEA meta that can occasionally feel very stiff and formulaic.

If the roster synergy clicks early in off-season practice, Valyn leading FNATIC could easily be the most dangerous combination in the VCT 2027 circuit.
