Counter-Strike 2 update fixes grenade exploit, Cache map, & expands VScript tools
Valve has officially released a new Counter-Strike 2 update, offering a fresh batch of bug fixes, map issue fixes, level geometry polish, and an extensive expansion to VScript and map scripting tools.
Featuring notable changes to the newly reintroduced Cache, along with scripting hooks for custom game modes, the patch addresses key stability concerns across both casual matchmaking and community server ecosystems.
What are the main highlights of the new Counter-Strike 2 update?
The main changes in this patch are:
- Level geometry bug fix: Resolved an exploit where grenades could occasionally be thrown through solid level geometry.
- Cache map polish: Addressed various asset gaps, fixed collision boundaries across multiple areas, eliminated visual asset flickering, and removed an unintended boost spot in the Outside A region.
- Shelter map update: Updated the community map Shelter to its latest version from the Steam Workshop.
- Extensive map scripting expansion: Added broad scripting triggers and API hooks for custom modes, including C4 status functions (IsBombsiteA, GetDefuser, IsExploded), grenade projectile controls (Detonate, GetThrower), and player inventory methods (HasDefuser).
Will these changes have any effect on lobbies?
Unlike the previous patch, this one may not affect casual lobbies much, but it does bring some quality-of-life enhancements and unlock new potential for custom servers.
However, fixing the annoying grenade clips that allowed utility to pass through solid walls would surely help reduce some of the exploits.
On the other hand, the massive suite of scripting additions will primarily empower community map makers and custom server hosts.
With direct API access to C4 plant states, defuse timers, grenade trajectories, and defusal kit ownership, workshop creators can now build far more sophisticated mini-games, retake plugins, and custom training scenarios directly within CS2.
Cache’s removal of the unintended Outside A boost spot, alongside collision and gap fixes, will be highly appreciated by competitive players. Preventing illegal boosts and visual asset flickering will improve sightlines and ensure fairer engagements for top-tier pros.
