FACEIT to bring back half-time all-talk CS2 voice chat for Season 9 trial
FACEIT has announced that cross-team half-time CS2 voice chat will return for a trial period. The decision came after a massive community vote in which 79 percent of over 106,000 participating players voted in favor of bringing back open communication between opposing teams during side switches.
The feature will go live for a week-long test running from August 5 to 12 during the launch of FACEIT Season 9.
How does CS2 half-time all-talk voice chat work in FACEIT lobbies?
Under the updated setup, voice chat channels will open between both teams for a few seconds immediately after the end of the 12th round. Once sides swap and the second-half buy period begins, cross-team communication will automatically close.
- Community Approval: 79% (out of 106,647 total votes)
- Test Duration: August 5 to 12, 2026 (Season 9 Launch)
- Channel Window: Active during side-switch transition
- Safety Measures: Full demo audio capture & automated report logging
How does it affect lobbies?
Cross-team half-time voice chat was once a staple of competitive Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and had caused many legendary clips as players got some time to banter on the comms.
However, Valve removed the feature during CS:GO’s operational lifespan and omitted it entirely from CS2, leaving many players feeling that online lobbies had lost one of their identities.
For online lobbies, half-time all-talk serves several key functions:
- Gives comms some personality: It introduces brief moments of competitive banter, allowing players to acknowledge impressive plays or joke with opponents before they lock in once again.
- But it comes with some toxicity: However, the half-time voice chat also gives players time to pour out their frustration, which gives rise to toxicity in the lobbies, which is one of the main reasons why Valve decided to remove the feature.
If the upcoming August trial proves successful without producing a rise in disruptive behavior, FACEIT’s initiative could establish a new standard for balancing in-game comms.
While it does have a con, as many players use the feature to spread hate during a match, the fans and devs can’t deny that half-time all-talk VC is also a lot of fun and gives way to many iconic moments.
