You can now raise pet chickens in CS2, but grenade buys just got stricter

Valve has officially shaken up Counter-Strike 2 with a patch that changes how players buy utility while introducing a virtual pet system featuring chickens. 

The update delivers a hard cap on utility purchases alongside a brand-new “Pet” feature that lets players hatch and raise their very own feathery companions directly on the server.

Valve caps utility buy limit at four grenades per round in CS2

On the competitive side, Valve has put a leash on excessive utility drops by capping total utility purchases at four items per round per player.

Under the old rules, players could stock up on grenades, drop them at spawn for teammates, and step back into the buy zone to purchase additional utility, effectively flooding key chokepoints with an endless barrage of smokes, nades, and molotovs. 

With the new 4-item hard limit enforced directly at the buy menu, players can no longer buy extra utility beyond their carrying capacity.

The change will be effective across all matches, forcing teams to be far more deliberate with their loadout and site executes, putting an end to cheap spawn strats that stalled out rounds before they even started. It will be interesting to see how the teams’ CS2 stats change as a result of this. 

Raising pet chickens from weekly drops

While this new update brought a lot to the table, the biggest highlight has proven to be CS2’s new pet mechanics. Players can now obtain a “Chicken Egg” as an untradable claim through their Weekly Care Package upon ranking up.

Once placed in your loadout, the egg hatches into a chick and progresses through growth stagesm, from chick to pullet, and finally to a full-grown hen.

The update introduces three distinct breeds (Catalana, Silkie, and Polish) featuring dozens of unique color variations and customizable traits like size, tail shape, and even mini cosmetic hats. 

By feeding your chicken with feed dropped in future care packages, your pet levels up.

Nonetheless, the new caps utility limit is something that you should keep an eye on, especially to see how it affects CS2 betting as teams adapt to the change.
