Fnatic misses LoL Worlds for the first time in 10 years

After losing to GiantX, Fnatic finished the LEC Summer Split 2026 3-6. Since Movistar KOI won against Team Heretics, three wins aren’t enough to qualify for the playoffs. Therefore, Fnatic will miss the LoL World Championship for the first time since 2016. This is also the first time that Fnatic failed to qualify for the LEC Summer playoffs in the history of the league.

Fnatic misses the LoL World Championship for the first time since 2016

2026 has proven to Fnatic’s worst year since the creation of the team. In 2025, they were between good and great in the regular season, but crashed down in the playoffs. Somehow, they snuck their way to Worlds to attend for the ninth time in a row. At Worlds, though, they didn’t even collect a participation trophy as they went home without a win.

The form that Fnatic showed at Worlds carried into 2026. In Winter, they barely made it to the playoffs in eighth place. Taking a look at the LoL stats, they were tied to two other teams at 5-6, they got by thanks to the head-to-head. However, they went out without winning a single game.

Those losses were the last thing that would happen to Fnatic in playoffs in 2026. In Spring, they finished 3-6, getting seventh place and two whole wins below sixth. Their only achievement that split was beating G2 and scoring the only win from the bottom four against the top six.

Summer went even worse. 0-3, then 3-0, then 0-3, the result is a 3-6 that is still not enough to advance to the playoffs. This is the first time that Fnatic has ever missed the Summer playoffs, and the first time in ten years that they miss Worlds.

Fnatic’s worst year in history

Be it through results or gameplay, Fnatic had a terrible year, and the LoL betting odds have reflected that. Since Worlds 2025, the team has been lifeless. Fnatic occasionally won games, but never in a way that would be promising.

Summer 2026 was the culmination of this. During their first three matches, Fnatic did nothing, they just fell over and lost. Replacing their mid laner and then top laner was supposed to bring a second wind, but Vladimiros “Vladi” Kourtidis wasn’t playing like a rank 1 challenger and Lim “Soboro” Seong-min didn’t impress either.

Suddenly, it clicked. Fnatic found how to make plays, how to get leads, and how to win games. They beat SK Gaming, then repeated the feat against G2 Esports, against whom they even looked clean.

After a third win, it finally looked good for them. At 3-3, they only needed one more and were looking like great players. That’s when the Fnatic of 2024 came back from the dead, the one that threw three consecutive massive leads against G2.

In their final three matches, FNC consistently managed to get early leads. Then, disjointed pick attempts always led to them throwing them away. Thus concludes Fnatic’s worst ever year.
