Social media posts suggest Gaimin Gladiators set to sign Perú Rejects

Controversial esports organization Gaimin Gladiators is allegedly set to return to Dota 2, signing a South American roster of Perú Rejects.

Rumors and hints that Gaimin could return to the Dota 2 space first swirled on Dec. 12, with their official social media hinting and posting in Spanish. The return to the space comes just a few months after the company dramatically cut its roster and filed a lawsuit against several of its former players.

The stack set to be acquired by Gaimin Gladiators is reportedly DreamLeague Season 28 South American Closed Qualifier winners, Perú Rejects. That line-up, made up of SA heavyweights David “Parker” Nicho Flores, Gonzalo “DarkMago” Herrera, Frank “Frank” Ayala, Elvis “Scofield” Peña, and Yelsthin “Elmisho” Hurtado secured their spot in DreamLeague S28 with a dramatic win over regional rivals HEROIC.

The roster features veterans of the SA team, and former members of rosters like HEROIC, beastcoast, and OG.LATAM. The signing is yet to be officially confirmed, although the Gaimin social media accounts have been abuzz with Spanish tweets, hints, and teases for almost two full days now.

Gaimin Gladiator’s return to the Dota 2 space could be seen as controversial given the ongoing lawsuit with four of the scene’s most prominent players. The case, against retired player, now caster Quinn “Quinn” Callahan, current Team Liquid players Marcus Folke “Ace” Hoelgaard Christensen and Erik “tOfu” Engel, and Team Yandex’s Alimzhan “watson” Islambekov, alleges “unfulfilled social and sponsorship deliverables.”

The controversy, however, spans back further, to TI14, where the organization and players reportedly failed to come to an agreement, and the Gaimin Gladiators org pulled out of TI – an unprecedented and highly unpopular move.

As a result, trust in the organization, especially from players, may not be high.

Perú Rejects are set to compete in DreamLeague Season 28 from Feb. 16.
