Gen.G stun Paper Rex in major VCT Pacific Stage 1 upset

The second week of VCT Pacific Stage 1 concluded with one of the biggest upsets of the tournament. Prior to the match between Gen.G and Paper Rex, PRX were the clear favorites to win.

To the surprise of everyone, Gen.G defeated Paper Rex 2-1. This result might be one of the most impactful moments in VCT Pacific this season. In this article, let’s take a look at what happened in this VCT Pacific Stage 1 and its implications this season.

Prior to the match between Gen.G and Paper Rex, the former had only won a single match this season.

On the other hand, Paper Rex were the runners-up of VALORANT Masters Santiago. According to VALORANT betting sites, the odds weren’t favoring Gen.G to win this game at all.

In the first match, Paper Rex took the lead and reached a score of 12-9. All they needed to do was secure one round. Sadly, they just couldn’t do that as Gen.G mounted an incredible comeback to win 17-15.

Kim “t3xture” Na-ra single-handedly on Chamber helped Gen.G secure the map win. In the second map, we saw Paper Rex trash Gen.G, winning nine rounds in a row and securing the win 13-3.

The tale of the final map

On Lotus, we saw a mirror composition by both teams, a double duelist composition. On attack, Gen.G returned the favor and demolished Paper Rex with a 10-2 scoreline.

It did feel like Paper Rex was given a taste of their own “W Gaming” playstyle. Gen.G won the map 13-3 and secured their second victory this season.

Following this win, both Gen.G and Paper Rex have a record of one win and one loss in Group Alpha.

Global Esports leads the table, followed by Kiwoon DRX with two wins and a zero-loss record. The top four teams from this group will qualify for the playoffs stage of VCT Pacific Stage 1.

It does look like teams will need to win a minimum of three matches to finish in the top four. It’s all to play for as the top three teams from this tournament will qualify for VALORANT Masters London.
