Movistar KOI beats Karmine Corp 3-0 in the LEC lower final

In the biggest upset of the year for the LEC, Movistar KOI beat Karmine Corp 3-0 in the lower final of the playoffs. With KC going undefeated in the regular season and MKOI barely reaching the playoffs, the expectation was for KC to win 3-0 today. Now, Movistar KOI will face G2 Esports in the grand final and Karmine Corp will go to the League of Legends World Championship as Europe’s third seed.

Movistar KOI sweeps Karmine Corp in the LEC playoffs

MKOI qualified just yesterday as they beat Natus Vincere 3-1. Against them, KC went 9-0 in the regular season. Aside from their traditional playoff loss against G2 Esports, they lost only three individual games with their 21 game wins. Additionally, Caliste “Caliste” Henry-Hennebert received his Summer MVP title to kick off the match, and KC was playing on their home turf in Nice, France.

Starting the series, Karmine Corp was ahead as expected. Soul point, a 3k gold lead, a scaling comp with Zeri and Yuumi, and MKOI was already making crucial mistakes. Javier “Elyoya” Prades Batalla used a battle Herald at drake and abandoned the fight to take the mid turret while his team didn’t get the memo, resulting in a complete wash of a fight.

However, the series turned around as he redeemed himself with a perfect Lee Sin kick onto Caliste. From that point, the game quickly went MKOI’s way.

The second map was very similar. KC started up, then repeatedly went for disrespectful fights. Engages down one or several teammates, mechanical overlooks, MKOI happily accepted the help KC gave them. KOI won game 2 with David “Supa” Martínez García finishing 16/1/2.

To finish the series, Karmine Corp had no fight left in them. Naturally, they picked off Supa as he was overextending on a mid-wave again, but that was the only thing that went their way as MKOI took the series.

Movistar KOI goes to the LEC final, Karmine Corp in play-in at Worlds

In 2025, the LEC was all about G2, MKOI, and KC. As they each won one title that season, they made up a true top three. Then in 2026, MKOI fell off hard and the LEC only had a top two then the rest. This culminated in the Summer Split as KC went undefeated in the regular season and everyone knew G2 would strike back in the playoffs.

Somehow, MKOI showed up as a rival to G2 and KC once more at the finish line. Now, they have a real chance at beating the champions. In their last match, MKOI would have won had they not thrown their biggest lead of the year, and the series still went to five games. G2 is still the favorite, but MKOI has their shot.

As for KC, they are the LEC’s third seed and will go through the play-in stage of Worlds. This terrible defeat could end up being a blessing in disguise for them. At MSI 2026, they went in with too much confidence and got blasted exactly like what happened to today, finishing 0-6 against T1 and Team Liquid.

This time, as MKOI already exposed them, there’s a chance for them to take a hard look in the mirror. By the time Worlds begins, maybe they’ll have fixed those errors.
