Gen.G wins the LCK Season Playoffs again in 2026

After a tense year where competition in South Korea was at its closest, Gen.G won the LCK Season Playoffs 2026. Despite having their worst regular season since 2023, they swept through the playoffs. Gen.G beat Hanwha Life Esports in the grand final 3-1 and earned themselves their third LCK title in a row.

During Rounds 3-4, GEN struggled against Dplus KIA and T1 while convincingly beating Hanwha Life Esports and KT Rolster. Finishing the regular season in first place let them pick their opponent for Round 2. As such, they chose KT and avoided T1.

After a swift 3-0, they moved to the upper final. There, they faced HLE and beat them 3-1. The grand final was a repeat of this series, and so was the result.

Once again, HLE won the first game. That was all that would go their way in the series. Afterwards, Gen.G destroyed them at every turn.

GEN thwarted the Anivia counterpick to top lane Varus, beat the signature Mundo from Choi “Zeus” Woo-je and Seo “Kanavi’’ Jin-hyeok’s undefeated Cho’Gath, and made Fiora look unpracticed. The only game that was close during the series was the one HLE won. Thus, Gen.G is the 2026 LCK Champion, after also winning the LCK Cup and the 2025 LCK Season.

The closest LCK season

2024 and 2025 were all about Gen.G while the other teams fought over second place. Across all previous years, one or two teams always stood above all others. 2026 started just like the previous two years with Gen.G being completely untouchable. Reaching First Stand after losing zero series and with a game score of 20-2, the team was even stronger than before.

Then, G2 Esports obliterated them and nothing was ever the same since. Finishing the LCK Season at 19-7, Gen.G had their worst regular season since Spring 2023, and their second worst since Summer 2021.

Instead, the top five took turns being the best for one or two weeks at a time. Dplus KIA overperformed at the start, and KT Rolster started 8-0. Then, they both fell off, and HLE won 11 series in a row while T1 won eight. Gen.G was right alongside them, and the top four finished Rounds 1-2 all at 1-1 against each other.

At the Esports World Cup, Dplus KIA came out of nowhere to win the event. DK then had the best Rounds 3-4 of all teams with a score of 6-2, only losing to KT and T1.

Going into the playoffs, they faced those two teams and finished in fourth place. GEN avoided them, and maybe they wouldn’t have won had they had different matchups. Regardless, they will represent the LCK as their first seed, followed by HLE, T1, and DK. With T1 winning Worlds 2025, HLE MSI 2026, and DK the EWC 2026, Gen.G is the only LCK representative who didn’t receive an international title in the past year.
