Yagao has officially replaced Scout for LNG Esports in Worlds 2024, and the shakeup shocked fans of both players and the team.

With the 2024 World Championship on the horizon, fans have already begun betting on their dream teams to take home the gold. Among the favorite players was LNG Esports’ Lee “Scout” Ye-chan, a talent with several accolades built up from years of active pro play. However, Scout’s Worlds dreams came to an unexpected end.

Due to complex legal issues surrounding the player’s travel status, Scout is currently unable to travel for Worlds 2024. Given the extraordinary circumstances, LNG Esports approached Riot Games and requested an emergency substitute. Riot has allowed LNG Esports to field a replacement, and the choice delighted fans.

Who replaced Scout in Worlds 2024?

Zeng “Yagao” Qi replaced Scout for the Worlds 2024 LNG Esports team. JD Gaming has lent Yagao as LNG Esports’ Midlaner for Worlds 2024. Yagao has reached Worlds twice in his career, both times reaching the top ranks of the competition, though never the gold.

JD Gaming had a strong start this year but failed to qualify for Worlds 2024. While his team’s Worlds dreams ended, a twist of fate put Yagao’s goals back on the path. The situation around Yagao is unique, and Riot has pointed this out in offering its ruling on the allowed substitution. On such short notice, some fans wonder how Yagao will perform in Worlds 2024 with a completely different team around him.

Yagao’s fans praised the decision and immediately began making jokes about the situation. Some even laughed over Yagao struggling during LPL play in his attempt to make it Worlds, only to end up punching his ticket based on another player’s misfortune outside of the game.

As for Scout, Riot has kept the gates open for his return should his legal issues be resolved in time for Worlds 2024. Scout’s absence is reportedly due to a civil lawsuit involving his former team, Edward Gaming. Those legal proceedings have restricted him from traveling internationally to where Worlds 2024 is being held, instead forcing the player to stay in China.

It all comes down to Scout and EDG resolving their issues before the end of Worlds 2024. Otherwise, it may very well be Yagao trying to earn wins for LNG Esports on the biggest stage in League of Legends.
