Team Liquid upsets LYON to win the LCS Summer Split 2026

Team Liquid just beat LYON 3-1 in the LCS Summer final to claim NA’s regional trophy. This is their first title since Winter 2025, when they swept 100 Thieves to win Split 1. After continuously being in the shadow of LYON, they’ll represent North America as the first seed at the 2026 League of Legends World Championship.
Team Liquid beats LYON 3-1
TLAW showed up and beat the favorite 3-1 in the LCS grand final. Team Liquid beat them at their own game while LYON made more and more mistakes. Ultimately, TLAW stomped the final game to shut the door on the series.
This match looked much like LYON’s first series against Cloud9. The LCS champions did not manage to use the strengths that define them, while their opponents arrived ready for them.
Even mechanical mistakes were many, while finalists seldom make these. Misclicks even – Kang “Saint” Sung-in was the rock that LYON relied on in this series, and even he fumbled a teamfight by clicking Twisted Fate’s ult in the middle of the enemy team. As for macro, that was even worse.
Ultimately, TLAW teamfought better most of the time, acted as playmakers, got better Smites, and made better objective snap calls. LYON was hesitant and the decisions they settled on were mostly not good either.

Team Liquid wins the LCS Summer Split 2026
With that victory, Team Liquid wins the LCS Summer Split 2026. This is the organisation’s ninth title, and their first since the LTA Split 1 2025.
In both Lock-in and Spring, LYON was the one to stop their run in the playoffs. In 2026, LYON had a 5-0 series record against Team Liquid.
This Summer though, TLAW proved to be a worthy rival. While they couldn’t beat LYON earlier, they were just as dominant against every other team. When LYON couldn’t beat C9, TLAW made short work of them. Now, they’ve finally completed that run and turned this match-up into a real rivalry.
For Worlds, this win doesn’t have strong implications. TLAW will get to face one of CTBC Flying Oyster, Dplus KIA, Invictus Gaming, or the play-in team in their opening game. As for LYON, they’ll go up against an opponent from Team Secret Whales, Hanwha Life Esports, Bilibili Gaming, or the CBLOL first seed.
The main outcome here is the title. However, this bodes poorly for LYON. The tournament starts in ten days, though they have slightly more respite until the Swiss stage. The form they showed today is not the one they had at MSI, the one capable of competing.
As for TLAW, they need to redeem themselves after MSI. While they did beat Karmine Corp, they went 0-6 against T1. Team Liquid definitely showed a stronger version of themselves today. Will it be enough to reach the Worlds playoffs for the first time ever?
