New community-based League Awards show is the first of its kind

League of Legends has never had its own awards show, but two prominent members of the community are creating The League Awards, a new event independent from Riot Games.

It’s common to see awards shows for gaming, but this new League of Legends awards show will focus on esports and the competitive scene for LoL and LoL alone. This idea already exists for other games and scenes like the EMEA Awards for Valorant and the HLTV Award Show for Counter-Strike. While Riot has dabbled in the idea with events like LCS Awards, the new project stands out by being entirely separate from the developer.

Despite being a major international esport, LoL hasn’t had a cohesive awards show. However, The League Awards is changing that.

Introducing The League Awards from Caedrel and sjokz

The League Awards is a new project hosted by popular League of Legends content creator Marc Robert “Caedrel” Lamont and well-known esports host Eefje “sjokz” Depoortere.

Caedrel announced the new project via social media on June 13, 2024. The show is meant to award the competitive players and teams who have performed over the last year while also celebrating the competitive scene. Both Caedrel and sjokz pointed out that the project is in the beginning stages, but it’s something Caedrel hopes to do year after year.

Caedrel said that voting information will be released later on, confirming that voting will play a part in at least some of the show. This could be a part of most awards or simply be one fan-based award.

When are The League Awards?

The League Awards will be held at the end of League of Legends’ competitive season, which concludes in November most years.

The pair will likely host the award at the tail end of every competitive season or the very beginning of the next one. At this time, neither Caedrel nor Eefje have spoken about a specific time. There’s a lot that goes into an awards show, and a date may not be set until closer to the end of the season.

2024 is shaping up to be a big year for League of Legends esports. The League Awards itself is a big addition, along with the more widespread adoption of the fearless draft in LoL esports.
