New Teemo rework revealed for LoL patch 14.20

Teemo, one of the most hated characters in League of Legends, is finally getting a visual rework, and here’s what it looks like.

Teemo has long been, arguably, the face of League of Legends. He’s tiny, furry, and unreasonably cute, while also being one of the most frustrating and polarizing champions to exist. Riot Games is giving this League of Legends long-tooth the 2024 treatment, and he’s even getting a harmonica.

Here’s everything we know about Teemo’s rework coming in Patch 14.20.

Teemo rework shown off for the first time

Riot developers revealed the Teemo visual rework in a regular dev update on September 23, 2024.

The update on League of Legends directly addressed millions of League of Legends fans on all sorts of updates and developments, and included Riot revealing what Teemo will look like in the future. This rework is an aesthetics sustainability update, otherwise known as a visual rework, and won’t include the mechanical scope of visual gameplay updates that fully redesign a champion.

Riot Games wanted to keep Teemo’s iconic theme and look while still modernizing it to be more in-line with recent additions to the roster. It doubled down on his identity as a carefree explorer and scout.

Riot Games has gone with a fully lighthearted feel for Teemo’s rework, no longer straddling the strange line Teemo had before. Previously, there was lore about Teemo in which he suffered from what was essentially murderous outbursts of PTSD from his many centuries of conflict with the Bandle City Scouts. It was an odd aspect of Teemo’s lore, and one Riot has ultimately decided not to preserve for his main design. Teemo’s new story sets him as one of Bandle City’s key scouts, sent ahead of Yordle Portals that link Runeterra to the magical Yordle city.

It’s Teemo’s job to make sure the location for the Portal is safe and clear, and once everything’s in tip-top shape, he’s on to the next location. In an extensive dev blog, Riot breaks down the creative process behind all of his new VFX and sound design.

The Teemo rework will hit Summoner’s Rift on Patch 14.20.

Teemo’s rework adds new dimension to his role, making it a great time to review all champions in League of Legends divided into roles.
