Playoffs – Quarter Final Matches

Match One – Spirit vs FaZe

Spirit had a great opening day, beating one of the tournament favourites in Vitality. The match vs G2 in the Winners Match was an excellent opportunity for them to ensure progression to the semi-finals. Ultimately, they could not do it and were undone by a well-organised and tactical G2. Spirit showed flashes of brilliance throughout the series. They often threatened a late-game comeback but failed to do so on both maps. They were competitive against G2 and will be confident coming up against a FaZe who has been having a poor year. Donk was exceptional in the series against G2, and the team will look to him again as the driving force for success.

Going into their elimination match, FaZe would have been cautious about getting their hopes up. They were up against NAVI, the best-ranked team in the world and considered the firm favourite in that series. Losing map one would have been discouraging, as recovering once you lose is hard. However, FaZe showed great determination and was able to grab a win on map two with their pick of Mirage. In game three, frozen and ropz were the standout players for FaZe. Their performances significantly influenced FaZe’s positive result in this series. Anything is possible based on how this event has gone, but they must perform at the top level in all maps to win here.

Betting on Spirit  vs FaZe

The odds show this is set to be a close matchup and that either team could win. Spirit has shown a little more quality so far in their gameplay, and because of that, they are the slight favourite. Currently, [conversion-link-operator=”301″]Spirit has odds of 25/33 on GG.Bet.[/conversion-link] Meanwhile, the odds for a FaZe win are at 50/53. (Odds subject to change) Having beat Vitality on the opening day would generally give SPirit the edge in this one, but FaZe just defeated NAVI. So expect this one to be a close affair, most likely going to map three.

Match Two – MOUZ vs Vitality

In their winners match against Astralis, the betting odds and the world rankings would tell you it should have been a routine MOUZ win. This was not the case, and they were the second team to fall victim to a 0-2 loss to Astralis. MOUZ showed moments of promise, and they might produce a comeback across both maps. Ultimately, they could not achieve that, and Astralis largely outplayed them.  They will aim to give a vastly improved showing here as they will have their eyes set on that semi-final spot. MOUZ will be disappointed not to have made it straight to the semi-final, but they will be more determined than ever to win here.

Vitality has undoubtedly made hard work of their route to here. Losing on the opening day to Spirit was not the start they were looking for. It then started to look like they would join NAVI in exiting early as they lost map one to Liquid. It was map two where Vitality upped their game and took the match 13-3 on Dust II. Vitality finally turned up to this event. Map three was an exceptionally closely contested game by the end. Vitality won by the smallest of margins after a grand entry by stand-in player JACKZ and constant clutch plays by ZywOo and flameZ.

Betting on MOUZ vs Vitality

Both are strong teams coming into this, but both have underperformed in moments and will be looking to get back on top with a win here. At this moment, Vitality is the favourite to win, according to the odds on GG.Bet, with odds of 10/13 compared to the odds 25/27 for a MOUZ win. (Odds subject to change) It will be a close series, and Vitality being a slight favourite is understandable, given their year so far.

Final Thoughts

With the last remaining places in the semi-finals on the line, the day is set to be full of clutch plays as each team fights to avoid elimination. All four teams look strong coming into this, and it is hard to predict who will advance. You would have to back Spirit and Vitality based on form at the tournament, but MOUZ has been performing incredibly well. FaZe have performed well, but this might be the end for them.
