BLAST Premier World Final Day 2 Preview: Could NAVI Go Home Early?

The first teams will go home on day two of the BLAST Premier World Final. No team wants to be the first to go, and with NAVI losing on day one, FaZe looks bleak.

This page will discuss the games on day two and examine how each team performed on day one. If you missed the matchups, you can look at them here in our day-one preview. We will provide a preview and insight into these games, supply betting odds, and what they mean for each team.

Group A Games

Elimination Match – NAVI vs FaZe

A colossal shock from day one was NAVI’s loss to Astralis. NAVI were firm favourites coming into that matchup but were subject to a shock 0-2 loss. They could not rediscover their previous form and seemed all out of sorts. It was a lacklustre performance across both maps and out of character for this roster. Alexsib must rally his team as captain and ensure they return to their usual standards for this elimination match.

FaZe came up against MOUZ on day one. It would be a close game based on the odds of GG.Bet, and it did live up to that, as map one needed OT to decide the winner. MOUZ took game one, and that momentum carried on to game two. With another close map, MOUZ were eventual winners, taking the series 2-0. FaZE lacked clutch moments to win this series, as MOUZ used small opportunities to take this game away from them. It will be a disappointing result for FaZe, which is now up against NAVI. They have it all to do.

Betting on NAVI vs FaZe

Despite their poor showing on day one, NAVI is a firm favourite in this elimination match. The current odds for the win are 20/39. Meanwhile, the odds for a FaZe win are at 67/50. (Odds are subject to change.) It shows just how good this NAVI roster can be. Even with their horror show on day one, they are still firm favourites in this matchup.

Winners Match – Astralis vs MOUZ

Our first surprise in the tournament was that Astralis defeated NAVI with a straightforward 2-0 victory. The series never looked in doubt once they started playing on that stage. NAVI was slow and lethargic, whereas Astralis was the opposite and seized their opportunity. The result was not due to NAVI performing below par; it was just as much about Astralis performing to new levels. This result will boost their confidence and ensure their progression to the Playoffs.

As mentioned above, a close series against FaZe was always predicted for MOUZ. Coming from behind in map one to force OT was fantastic for them. FaZe got match points first, and MOUZ had to hold their nerves to draw back level, take match points themselves, and then go on to win. MOUZ showed why they are rated highly in CS2, and they will need the same level of performance here to be an Astralis team with high confidence. A win here sends you straight to the semi-finals and puts you in a fantastic place to push on to claim the title.

Betting on Astralis vs MOUZ

Given how their year has gone and their global ranking. Astralis were never going to be the favourites going into this. MOUZ is the favourite to take this series with current odds of 10/21 on GG.Bet. . Astralis have odds of 139/100, which makes them big outsiders here. (Odds subject to change) With a spot in the semi-finals at stake, we likely see the extra quality MOUZ possesses shine through to win this series.

Group B Games

Elimination Match – Liquid vs Vitality

On day one, Liquid experienced a very mixed series against G2. They won the first map (Ancient) with a score of 13-0. They did not lose a match on that map and utterly dominated G2. On the following map (Inferno), it all fell apart. They failed to show the same intensity, and G2 was able to contain them. Game three on Mirage was a similar story. Liquid could not replicate the performance shown on map one. Group B has top-level teams, and Liquid has got the worst. No matter who they faced in this group, it would always be an uphill task. It is a much more volatile and intense group compared to Group A.

Vitality was against a strong team in the form of Spirit on day one. The series was always going to be close due to the quality of both teams. Vitality lost 0-2, but it was not a hopeless series. Vitality played well but got outplayed throughout both maps. Standout player ZywOo provided some key clutch moments and will need to offer more in this series to ensure that Vitality does not go home early. Vitality will have high expectations for this tournament. Their road will now be a little more complicated, but this is one obstacle they should overcome.

Betting on Liquid vs Vitality

As expected, Vitality is considered the favourite in this series. At present, Vitality has odds of 5/11 on GG.Bet to take the win. A liquid win only has odds of 29/20. (Odds subject to change) It has been a group of death for Liquid, and it does not look like it will get any easier here.

Winners Match – G2 vs Spirit

G2 had to dig deep on day one vs Liquid and return from what initially looked like an awful result. Up against a much lower-ranked Liquid, it should have been a routine win. This all turned on its head when G2 lost the opening map with a score of 0-13. From this point, G2 were up against it mentally. They battled back, showing great composure and handled the pressure exceptionally well. They were taking maps two and three in a professional and well-disciplined way. After map one, G2 made very few mistakes and did not allow Liquid the same freedom they had in map one.

Spirit faced one of the top three-ranked teams in the world. Many considered Spirit a slight underdog in this due to the quality Vitality often showcases. They showed they could easily go toe-toe with Vitality and outplay them in a constantly changing game state. Spirit demonstrated how to best play as a team and take advantage of any misstep from the opposition. Coming against G2 here will be just as intense, if not more, with the recent form they have been in. Spirit showed they can compete with the best on day one, and I believe they will do so again here.

Betting on G2 vs Spirit

It will be an extremely tight series. With a place in the semi-finals at stake, it should be a cagey affair that will likely take us to map three. There is little to separate these two in terms of betting odds. G2 has odds of 50/63 to win, whilst Spirit has odds of 50/57 to win on GG.Bet. (Odds subject to change.) It makes G2 the ever-so-slight favourite, but this series could go either way.

Final Thoughts

Day one provided plenty of entertainment and some shock results. With elimination and semi-finals on the line on day two, we will have more of the same. Expect NAVI to come back swinging after their disappointing result. Keep an eye on G2 vs Spirit, as it looks set to be one fantastic series.
