After another great day of the Swiss Stage, teams have the first chance to qualify for the Knockout Stage.
These teams are currently undefeated and have gone 2-0 so far. As we already know, three wins qualify you for the next stage. Day three consists of two games, as the teams with other records, such as 1-1 and 0-2, play on different days. On this page, we will preview the 2-0 games.
They are two of the lesser-expected teams to be still undefeated. However, one can advance to the next stage at the first opportunity.
DK faced off against FLY on day two. They were heavy favourites for this simply due to the skill gap between the two regions. But it was the fashion in how they won that was impressive. FLY went to a more unexpected team comp, but DK responded by out-drafting them. Using the Smolder pick in Botlane was great, as it is a pick that has been placed mid-lane throughout Worlds so far. Showmaker also being put on the Sylas gave him the freedom of this match to do what he does best. They were decisions justified by the performances Showmaker and Aiming put in. After a relatively clean first two days, they will be confident about entering this.
LNG was given one of the most challenging tasks on day two. Beating BLG was no easy task, but LNG found a way. They did not have the best of starts to the game and did fall behind. As the game went on, they showed patience and discipline. They were the much better team around team fights, and they utilised the Nocturne pick effectively, using him to focus the BLG backline. This, coupled with the performance from Scout and Zika, led to LNG swinging a gold deficit to a lead and ultimately winning the game.
LNG is the slight favourite in this matchup. The odds for a LNG win are 25/47, compared to 11/8 for a DK win on GG.Bet. (Odds subject to change) After seeing both teams in action on day two, LNG looks like the stronger team after their monstrous performance to take down BLG.
These two teams were expected to go undefeated on days one and two—as long as they avoided each other. This is a fantastic rematch of the LCK season finals. GEN will be out for revenge, having lost 3-2 to HLE in that final.
GEN were favourites to win their match against TES on day two, and they did just that. However, it could have been a smoother game for them. TES heavily targeted Jungler Canyon in the early game to limit his influence. Chovy was his usual self and performed well on the Yone pick, which has picked up priority lately. But it was the botlane duo Peyz and Lehends who were phenomenal. They were the centre of everything good GEN did and were the driving force behind the success. They will need the same level of performance in this game against the LCK number one seed. He will carry the game if GEN can funnel gold and resources again into Peyz.
HLE had a slightly more favourable draw for day two. They were expected to win against LEC’s number one seed, G2. Despite all the talk about the differences in skill between the regions, HLE found themselves in a difficult position against G2. They had to keep their composure and ultimately showed their class and quality by winning the game. Jungler Peanut was leading the charge. He was two steps ahead of G2 throughout the match and piloted the Sejuani pick perfectly. There were some worrying moments for them that they will need to iron out before this series, but G2 will act as an excellent warm-up for this matchup.
It may come as a surprise, but GEN are firm favourites coming into this series. On GG.Bet, the odds for a GEN win are 5/11, compared to 159/100 for an HLE win. (Odds subject to change). This is a challenging game to predict. They are two of the best teams in the world, and they face each other in a Bo3 series here. A tournament winner will not be decided here, but it will give us our first indication of the strongest team competing this year.
