As we approach the final day of the Swiss Stage, six teams will have one last chance to advance to the knockout stage in Paris. We see each team compete in a make-or-break Bo3 series.
On the final day, we see one EU team in action and a head-to-head of two NA teams. Western teams often struggle to make it to knockouts, but an NA team is guaranteed to make it. Here, we will preview the games to come, discuss the last round, and mention which team has the best odds of winning.
The day’s first game is a classic LCK vs. LPL matchup. DK is the third seed from LCK and the only LCK team that has yet to advance. Meanwhile, WBG has had an underwhelming year and Worlds so far.
DK is the last of the LCK teams to advance to knockouts. Their performances at the Worlds have been mixed. They went 2-0 and had the chance to advance first when they faced LNG. They eventually lost the series 2-0. Since then, their performances have dipped. They were losing another series 2-0 to an LPL team in TES. It has been disappointing for DK when they have faced LPL teams and face another one here. Showmaker is the centrepiece of this roster, and DK needs a big performance from him to take this series. Top laner Kingen was a liability in the last series against TES. He will know his errors, and I expect he will perform better here.
WBG has been lucky with the draws so far. The only teams they have beaten are Western teams, apart from G2, where they lost. They were last year’s finalists, and much more was expected of them here. Overall, it has been a disappointing year for WBG, and this is their last chance to save their year. With DK underperforming, they will be confident of a positive result. Top laner 369 has started to show his quality. They can be unstoppable if they give him a carry champion and mid-laner Creme an AD champion. The WBG roster has the quality but has yet to be unlocked.
Coming into this matchup, it is hard to see a favourite. Both teams have immense quality, but both have underwhelmed so far. DK is the slight favourite to win this series – on GG.Bet they have odds of 20/29 to win the series. Meanwhile, WBG has odds of 53/50. (Odds subject to change) It is a complicated series to predict with both teams having unseen quality. DK should have the quality to take the series here.
In game two, we see the last chance for an EU team to advance. We also see LPL’s number-one seed and one of the tournament favourites in an unfamiliar and unexpected situation. BLG would have expected a smoother Swiss Stage.
There was so much hope and excitement around G2 in their last series. They were facing T1, and many believed they could pull off the win and advance. Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be, and they lost the series 2-0. There were some simple mistakes that they could rectify here. They were out-drafted by T1. They were then also beaten on the macro side of the game. G2, who are typically so controlled, found themselves being picked off all too easily. They have shown they are good enough to beat Eastern teams, as they beat WBG earlier in the tournament. Brokenblade will have his hands full in this series at the top lane, as BIN is one of the world’s best. Caps will be up against Knight, who has been one of the top esports pros for a long time.
BLG would not have expected to be in the 2-2 bracket. It is disappointing by their standards, especially considering they finished second in this year’s MSI event. They faced PSG in their last series and were heavy favourites to win. The series ended as a 2-0 win to BLG but was far from convincing. In game one, they were lucky. PSG was ahead, but they made mistakes and threw the game. Game two was better from a BLG point of view, but the series was unconvincing. Top-laner BIN was instrumental in dragging BLG through that series, and I expect his influence to carry into this series. If they are to get a positive result, they will indeed play around him.
Despite their current performances, BLG is a firm favourite for this series—the current odds on GG.Bet are 2/7 for a BLG win, whilst a G2 win has odds of 12/5. (Odds subject to change) It could be false hope from me in the EU teams, but I do not think you can count G2 out of this series. They have beaten an LPL team and did well in their series against T1. If you like an underdog, then G2 is a realistic one to back.
The final game of the day is LCS vs. LCS. It is a repeat of their season finals, in which FLY came out on top. This matchup also ensures the LCS have a representative at the next stage.
FLY has performed well in the Worlds so far. Coming in as the number one LCS seed, they were given the better of the day one draws. Since then, they have had mixed results, which landed them in the 2-2 bracket. In their last series, they lost 2-1 to HLE. Considering HLE is the LCKs’ first-seeded team, it was impressive to take a game in this series. The whole FLY roster has performed well in moments at Worlds. Top laner Bwipo and ADC Massu have been the standout performers. Being against familiar opposition in this series, they should be fine putting in another standout performance, and FLY would like their chances of a winning result here.
TL experienced a torrid start to Worlds this year. Going 0-2 was not ideal. Since then, the draws have been kind to them, and they have gotten back on their feet. Their most recent series was a 2-1 win over GAM. They started that series with an incredibly lacklustre performance in game one, where they fell apart. For the remaining two games of the series, they turned up. UmTi and APA stepped up and carried TL through the series. This series was a reminder that this TL roster is inconsistent, and victory over their fellow LCS will be challenging.
As expected, the odds between these two teams are nearly even. TL are very slight favourites, with odds of 50/59 for winning the series on GG.Bet. Meanwhile, FLY has odds of 20/23. (Odds subject to change) It shows just how close this series will be. Based on performances at Worlds, FLY is the better team. They have performed well against the teams who are better than them, whereas TL did not show up against the LPL teams they faced earlier in the tournament.
On the final day of the Swiss Stage, we will see who the last remaining teams are to advance to the knockout stages. It will be a high-pressure and intense set of games with everything to lose. For EU fans, this is the last chance for G2 to advance and prove they are competitive internationally. The previews of each game should give you some essential insight into the matchups if you want to place any bets on this day. For more tips, check out our LoL Worlds betting page.
