With the recent Microsoft announcement, Activision Blizzard is now becoming a part of Microsoft’s new era of gaming. Namely, the giant in the tech industry has bought one of the biggest gaming companies ever, Activision Blizzard. There was a lot of back-and-forth action between both of these companies, but the deal was successful after months of negotiations. So, how will this deal impact gaming and eSports in general, and what’s going to happen with Blizzard games?
Microsoft buying Activision Blizzard is definitely huge! Many are wondering where this came from and why did the largest third-party publisher decide to sell? Well, according to the CEO of Activation Blizzard Bobby Kotick, the main reason for this was the fact that Blizzard needs thousands of people in order to execute its production plans. The main fields where those people are needed are AI and machine learning, data analytics, and cyber-security. And Microsoft is actually the most suitable company that can offer that.
The deal was set for $68.7 billion which exceeds the $26 billion that Microsoft spent in order to acquire LinkedIn back in 2016. This is obviously the biggest investment Microsoft made when it comes to gaming and eSport in general. However, there’s a lot of work ahead so it’s not strange to see more money pumped in this project.
We’ll keep you updated as the deal unfolds over the next couple of years with EsportsBetting news!
When it comes to taking full control of everything Activision Blizzard is doing at the moment, Microsoft will need a lot of time. Therefore, Activision is going to work in the same fashion as before until all changes and new stuff are integrated fully into the company. This could take years to happen, but if we look at the takeover terms, the end of integration should be by the end of 2023. Meaning all games from Activision Blizzard will by then be a part of the Xbox game pass.
Since everything was sorted out and both parties agreed on the deal, it’s a matter of time to see Activation Blizzard games added to the Xbox game pass. The CEO of Microsoft, Phil Spencer, said that they are going to offer as many Activision Blizzard games in their Xbox Game pass and PC Game pass. This means that we are going to see some old-school games like Warcraft, Diablo, Call of Duty, all integrated into Xbox and PC game passes.
The Activision Blizzard eSports section will remain the same, but under the new management of Microsoft, obviously. So this means that everything will most likely stay the same in the pro scene of Overwatch, CoD, and Hearthstone. Also, games like Diablo and Candy Crush may well change as they are the first to be integrated into Xbox game pass. On top of that, the Blizzard Major League gaming scene will also remain the same, for now at least.
There’s a lot of work ahead of Microsoft, especially in the field of Xbox game pass releases. But, are they going to make Activision Blizzard games as an exclusive release? This would be a logical thing to do since these two gaming platforms are merging. Therefore, people will have more games to play on the same gaming platform. The same goes with betting on eSports. When all games are integrated successfully, the majority of online casinos will integrate them into their eSport section.
