Train is live in CS2, here’s a first look from Valve

With the nostalgic sounds of rain and train horns in the background, Train has come roaring down the track and into CS2. Here’s the first look at the iconic map’s arrival.

Counter-Strike 2 has been out for over a year now and Valve has continued to update the popular FPS with classic content from the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive to keep both casuals and competitors hooked. While some in the Counter-Strike community initially expressed frustration with CS2 arriving with less content than CSGO, developers clearly want to update each element before adding it to the newest rendition of the game.

The latest arrival is Train, which comes with a few visual updates since gamers last planted a bomb there.

Train arrives in CS2 map pool with some new visuals

Valve teased the arrival of Train with a changed banner, then a 40-second clip of the map in the CS2 engine with a backdrop of rain and train sounds. The CS2 community reacted with excitement over the classic map’s possible return.

Then, later today, Train arrived at the station along with the rest of the November 13 update. Valve announced: “A map almost as old as Counter-Strike itself returns. All aboard!”

CS2 Train map

Train has been around since Counter-Strike 1.6 and remained a competitive favorite until CSGO. Valve explained that map is full of “plenty of classic Counter-Strike” for veterans but it also has some noticeable changes. First are the graphics. Train clearly had details added in just about every corner to bring Train into the modern era of graphics that gamers expect. This includes rain puddles on the ground and overcast clouds in the sky, creating a gloomy atmosphere.

Said Valve: “We also gave it a full visual overhaul, which means your favorite bleak Eastern European train yard is now 60% cloudier. With a chance of rain? We guarantee it.”

Moltovs are not affected by the rain, which should be a good thing for Jaryd “Summit1g” Lazar. Weapons, however, do seem to get wet. Gamers have even noticed that characters will shake their hands free of rain when they switch from their gun to their melee weapon, a really nice detail.

Pigeons have been removed from the map, but there’s graffiti in its place, one of which reads “respect the pigeons.” Other little details like this can be noticed throughout.

Train is now available for casual, ranked, and deathmatch.
