League of Legends’s new Swarm mode is finally coming to the main game with waves of aliens ready to attack players’ brave champions.

Players have been testing out Swarm mode in the League of Legends PBE for the past few weeks. The reviews were overwhelmingly positive, with some favorably comparing it to the game Vampire Survivors. After playtesting in the beta environment, the new mode is ready to go live to the whole League community.

Here’s what fans need to know going into the League of Legends Swarm mode this summer.

What is Swarm?

League’s Swarm: Operation Anima Squad is a co-op player vs environment (PvE) mode that developers have called “bullet heaven.”

A part of the 2024 LoL summer event, players main one of nine champions in the Anima Squad universe to battle waves of Primordians and defend the Final City. The new mode departs from traditional League mechanics and instead follows WASD movements. It can be played solo or with up to three other teammates.

Another big change in Swarm is the champions themselves. Fighters are given altered stats compared to League and three slightly different abilities. While champions won’t have skill points to level up, they will have the ability to unlock new power-ups and equipment. These might have completely new effects on play.

The Anima Squad is a team of champions dedicated to saving a dying earth from aliens by using their own tech against them.

Developers plan on hosting an AMA on July 18th at 10 am PST for players to ask any burning questions. Anyone wanting to play League’s Swarm mode has until August 26th to do so.  The fate of the LoL universe may depend on it.
