Welcome to ProVision by ESB. Today, we will examine the G2 vs. BLG series, particularly BrokenBlades’ performance on Yasuo.
We will analyse this pick as it proved highly effective and was a big reason this series went to game three. Since this series, the expectations in BLG have gone down. Backed by the odds of 29/20 to reach the final on GG.Bet. (Odds subject to change)
Let’s talk about the lane matchup between Yasuo and Gnar. Yasuo is a winning matchup against Gnar. He has excellent counter abilities, such as the wind wall and the flow shield. This allowed Brokenblade to mitigate the poke and bullying from Mini Gnar. All this, mixed with Yasuo’s extra mobility, means Gnar can’t kill Yasuo when he turns into Mega Gnar. Yasuo then also outscales the Gnar in the side lanes.
BLG Top-laner BIN is one of the best in the world, and he showed his prowess on this countered pick. BrokenBlade looked shaky on the Yasuo. BIN on the Gnar was unexpectedly coming out on top in the laning phase exchanges.
At the ten-minute mark, a fight breaks out around the grubs. G2 won this fight, and BrokenBlade walked away with one kill and two assists. This was met with BIN getting another turret plate, so in terms of the matchup, they were still even in gold.
From here, it snowballed with BrokenBlade showing his proficiency on Yasuo. It was good play after good play, and he slowly built a lead on Yasuo and influenced his team to gain advantages. Later, there was a baron fight, and BrokenBlade demonstrated he was fearless enough to engage and start fights. He stacked his Q to get the tornado, then flashed out of the pit into the BLG team, sacrificing himself. This play ensured the baron went to G2, which was a massive moment in the game.
The game-winning play was when BrokenBlade ran down Elk, who was on Xayah. He did this with a flash tornado into ult. It kept the Xayah locked up, and the game swiftly ended after this.
Arguably, Caps had just as much impact on the Sylas pick. He was unchained on the side lanes and became a massive threat after being able to scale up. This became a problem for the BLG team as they could not match the threat and strength of the G2 solo laners.
Looking at the recent meta, combined with BrokenBlades’ performance on Yasuo, we can see a spot for him to be utilised by other teams in Worlds. The main issue facing other teams is their level of practice in order to be proficient on this champion. Despite all the players being more than capable of playing Yasuo, they likely need to put more time and practice on him. To pull a pick like Yasuo out on this stage, you have to be comfortable with him and be happy with the skill level you are reaching. This BrokenBlade performance may have put Yasuo into other teams’ minds, so we may see it again.
